About this listen

The forgotten granddaughter of one of New York's wealthiest men is reunited with her family just as she comes of age - and once she's had a glimpse of their glittering world, she refuses to let it go without a fight.

When Laila Lawrence becomes an orphan at 23, the sudden loss unexpectedly introduces her to three glamorous cousins from New York who show up unannounced at her mother's funeral. The three siblings are scions of the wealthy family from which Laila's father had been estranged long before his own untimely demise 10 years before.

Two years later, Laila has left behind her quiet life in Grosse Point, Michigan to move to New York City, landing her smack in the middle of her cousins' decadent world. As the truth about why Laila's parents became estranged from the family patriarch becomes clear, Laila grows ever more resolved to claim what's rightfully hers.

Caught between longing for the love of her family and her relentless pursuit of the lifestyle she feels she was unfairly denied, Laila finds herself reawakening a long dead family scandal - not to mention setting off several new ones - as she becomes further enmeshed in the lives and love affairs of her cousins. But will Laila ever, truly, belong in their world?

I love books with these types of stories but the ending was disappointing. I don’t like making up an ending. I want to know exactly what happened. Oh well…on to the next.

Not the ending I expected

If you could sum up She Regrets Nothing in three words, what would they be?

Gossip Girl meets Big Little Lies

What was one of the most memorable moments of She Regrets Nothing?

The characters were complex and well written.

Have you listened to any of Rachel Dulude’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She's excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by the writing and how human and complex the characters were.

Any additional comments?

The book had me enthralled, however, I was a little let down by the ending.

Good Listen

I kept reading this book hoping something would turn around for the main character, but she never gets a redemption and her family continues on without seeing their part in any tragedies. Slow and frustrating.

A Main Character Who Learns Nothing

The story is well told and engaging. The characters are well drawn although a bit stereotypical. Not so as it interferes with the enjoyment, however.
The narrator has a lovely style, but has gone a bit overboard in Laila’s Midwest accent. Grossed Point is not International Falls. Michigan is not Minnesota. Honestly, the sing songy voice of Laila almost did me in.

Great atmosphere but flawed in performance

This narrator continuously mispronounced words and it was very frustrating. Took me out of the experience. The story itself leaves a lot to be desired. Despicable wealthy people doing despicable wealthy people things. The author used the word quotidian so many times it was almost funny.

Frustrating narrator/ vapid story

Readers should be warned that this is nothing more than a grotesque and lurid porn novel.

Capacious use of sex under the guise of “literature”

I’m disappointed in books that have to rely on profanity, graphic sex and violence in an attempt to keep a reader engaged. What a turn off! Will we ever get a rating system for books?

Why the graphics sec?

Awful book. Bad characters, I regretted reading this and am not sure how this got published

Terrible - don’t waste your time

There is nothing redeeming about this novel. I recommend finding something else. The storyline is weak, the characters are lackluster, and the plot is childish. The ending seemed as though th writer reached a word count and it was over.

I Regret wasting my time on this novel.

This was a mind-numbing bore of a book. While it felt like it might go down some interesting paths, in actuality it went absolutely no where except for in depth descriptions of outfits and NYC clubs. The main character who is supposed to explore the family scandal? Never actually does and that storyline has zero conclusion. The author's disdain for the Midwest is as distracting as the narrator's bad accent. Overall this sounds like it came out of a high school creative writing class.
