About this listen

From number-one New York Times best-selling author and Edgar Award winner Alex Berenson comes a supercharged thriller about marriage and the dangerous secrets spouses keep.

Rebecca and Brian Unsworth appear to have it all. A nice house in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Two well-behaved, healthy teenage children. Important government jobs - Rebecca working in counterterrorism for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Brian serving as a coder for the National Security Agency. Their lives stand to improve even more as Brian, in his off-hours, has just developed and sold a highly profitable app.

However, the Unsworths’ marriage isn’t as perfect as it seems. After two decades together, they’ve drifted apart, talking little and having sex even less. Seeking to revive their strained relationship, they decide for their 20th wedding anniversary to take their two kids, Kira and Tony, on a European getaway.

They have a blast…until one night in Barcelona when Kira doesn’t come home from a dance club. She’s gone. Abducted. Over the course of a single weekend, the Unsworths will do everything possible to find her - as Kira herself discovers just how far she’ll go to break free of the trap that’s been set for her. And even as Rebecca and Brian come together for Kira, they realize their marriage is more tenuous than they realized.

The Power Couple is both a fast-paced, globe-trotting espionage novel full of surprising twists and a nuanced look at modern marriage - the challenges of balancing career, parenthood, sex, and love.

He’s done it again.

America’s preeminent thriller writer has come out with a nasty, fantastic bit of darkness. As much an autopsy of a troubled marriage as a straight ahead kidnapping plot this book does not lack for surprises.

A great and earned ending.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Not my usual genre, but this one did pack a punch. Several twists and turns with a few that surprised me. Will definitely try another book by Alex Berenson.

The Power Author

Second book by AB, this one has some great twists. AB seems to have a fair amount of knowledge of and insight into the intricacies of federal intelligence agencies and military operations.
This book was good to the end.

Fast paced thriller

Good narration
Fast paced thriller — at times a little predictable but such is the genre

The ending

It was too slow moving until towards the end. Steven Webber was excellent though. Thanks

Not John Wells but it was excellent!

I have read all the John Wells books and I was hoping for another adventure and to hear of Tonka! But this was different and I gave it a try. Amazing job as aways I highly recommend this read!

I like the author

Heard about this book via an interview with the author. He seemed like a cool guy so I bought the book. It is quite good. There is a reason he has done well. It’s a good listen with some unexpected twists. I would recommend to friends.

Grabbed my interest and wouldn't let go.

It starts out seeming to be a mostly character based novel and the main figures are carefully drawn in some detail in full color. Then, just when you're sure that you are way ahead of the author, he makes a hard left turn and you're heading down Lombard Street, at full speed and in technicolor plus.
None of the characters are who you thought they were.
I'll have to read it again to see what clues I missed.
It's been years since I've read a book that could surprise me this much. It was a really great read.

Steven Weber does a great job of making the characters come alive. He tends to disappear into his characters on screen and he does the same thing here. The sign of really accomplished actor.

I finished this audiobook a couple of days ago and it's still rattling around in my head. I recommend you give it a try.
