About this listen

From the author of It’s Always the Husband comes a riveting new suspense audiobook about privilege, power, and what happens when we let ambition take control.

For Rose Enright, enrolling in a prestigious New England boarding school is the opportunity of a lifetime. But for Rose’s vulnerable twin sister Bel, Odell Academy is a place of temptation and danger. When Bel falls in with a crowd of wild rich kids who pressure her into hazing Rose, the sisters’ relationship is shattered. Rose turns to her dorm mother, Sarah Donovan, for advice. But Bel turns to Sarah’s husband Heath, a charismatic and ambitious teacher. Is Heath trying to help Bel or take advantage of her? In a world of privilege, seduction, and manipulation, only one sister will live to tell the truth.

In an audiobook full of twists, turns, and dark secrets, Michele Campbell once again proves her skill at crafting intricately spun and completely compelling plots.

Critic reviews

"Campbell’s skillful characterization and her shocking final twist make this follow-up to It’s Always the Husband well worthwhile. Readers who enjoyed Simone St. James’ boarding-school mystery, The Broken Girls, should give this a try." (Booklist)

“A creepy thriller that has notes of Mean Girls and The Secret History.” (Refinery29)

"[A] mystery with teeth - and nails." (New York Times Book Review)

Engrossed

It took awhile to demand my attention, but it got there. It was evil. It started out school-girl stuff. It gradually escalated. The last page had a twistI hadn’t seen coming.

Finished this in record time

This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites. This was a great read - the twists keep you guessing and the character development is solid. Also loved the narrator. 10/10 all around.

Kept me guessing

This book was great it kept me guessing all the way to the end and then that prologue Wowza!

This was my first book by this author and i will be getting her previous book because I really enjoyed her writing style. there aren't many characters to like but you will feel bad for some and suspect everyone!

I listened to this one audio narrated by january LaVoy who brought the characters to life and every emotion they felt. Highly recommend this one on audio!

Tried to be Big Little Lies

Honestly, not a great book. The plot was just interesting enough to keep me involved but was also extremely predictable. The writing was even worse. I rolled my eyes so many times at both the twins and Sarah’s characters. The women in this book had next to no personality outside of the men in their life. The relationships were unrealistic and superficial. The epilogue resolved almost nothing, except providing the smallest insight into the fact that the killer was a bad person all along... but that could have been explored way more. Overall, I’d tell you to read Big Little Lies over this knockoff version.

LOVED IT!

Great thriller! Not many books hook me from the very start; this book did just that! From start to the literal finish! I loved the flow of the unfolding events, the well-developed characters, the excitement and the suspense. And..….well of course, the twists and turns. Just when you think it’s all figured out you are so wrong; then you think oh I know now, nope wrong again!. The ending was WHOA! I really didn’t see that coming. I enjoyed this book soooo much that I read/listened to it twice in a row. The narrator was BRILLIANT as always! This is going on my FAV list!
