A Death Korps Audiobook

Vraks is an armoury world that is vital to the struggling Imperium and its efforts to resist the wider threats to humanity. The planet is a key link in the long supply chain that keeps the beleaguered Imperial regiments stationed around the Eye of Terror and ready for war.

The stoic Death Korps of Krieg have been assigned to this desperate world's defence. The grim soldiers of this regiment are born to serve the Emperor, as below Krieg’s irradiated surface is a human factory, existing only to produce soldiers destined for the front line in the Imperium’s most toxic and gruelling warzones. These indoctrinated soldiers are unflinchingly loyal and willing to sacrifice themselves without question or regard to ultimately win victory.

And they will need all these qualities to face the horrors awaiting them on Vraks…

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Understand just how the Death Korps of Krieg have earned their reputation as the Imperium’s most ruthless fighters in this gripping tale of desperate defence and defiant loyalty. Even when all seems lost, new ways to survive and fight are unearthed, as an officer named Tyborc, expecting to die, finds a new way to live.

THE STORY

Vraks has fallen.

Mustering an army from the ranks of the Death Korps of Krieg, the Astra Militarum embarks on a long and desperate siege to save the planet from the madness of an apostate preacher. It will last seventeen years, cost the lives of millions, and attract the attention of daemons and heretics alike, but the Death Korps must claw back victory, inch by bloody inch, from the hands of the enemy.

heavy mask breathing

it was overall an enjoyable listen it's a good supplement book if you already listened to any lore videos on YouTube. Pretty good job setting the mindset of the death korps which is a depressing one to any1 outside their world. One drawback are the transitions between scenes. alot of abruptly ending scenes/time skips which i get because the battle has a timeline to end in 17yrs gice by the high lords of terra. Lastly i wouldn't say there was a strong story more like a battle report. But if you liked the fall of cadia by robert rath then you'll like this book. I would still recommend this 4/5. only had 1 listen so far might adjust this when I give it another listen

Grab your shovels!

Maybe this book isn’t for everyone, maybe some have watched super detailed YouTube videos on it, or maybe they don’t like the death korps being anything but robots. But I think it was done well. And yes there’s girl krieg, I mean even if you believe them all to be clones, it’s not that outlandish.

Giving The Krieg Depth

If you’ve read Lyons’ other Krieg books, you’ve probably got a very specific image of the Death Korp in your head. This book takes that image and expands on it, shows its flaws and its secret doubts. This book gets behind the Death Korps’ facade and really considers the different ways this life would affect a person.

Better than the first Krieg book

Much better then the first Krieg book but for me that's a low bar. It wasn't bad but wasn't stand out memorable like some other books I have listened to.

Grim and fantastic

I felt like I was being dragged through the filthy mud with the characters, and I loved it. This grim, awesome, and hopeless slog was exactly what I wanted this book to be and more.

It's Alright

Here's the thing: DKoK is fascinating from a lore point of view, but they themselves are a bit boring. Most of the book felt like as long as the Siege of Vraks itself, long and grueling. But, if you remember the names of characters and wade through it all, it has a pretty solid pay off at the end.
Steve Lyons did as good a job as he could have with the Krieg, and I think it's commendable.

Better than the first Krieg book!

If you already know about the siege on vraks you won't get much new here. That said, this is a truly interesting way of seeing 40k battle at its biggest and most ridiculous from a more personal point of view. If you love Krieg get it.
If you don't know anything about the siege on vraks but want a book about it from the Krieg point of view, get it!!

The level of emotion and mental stress is conveyed

It was a solid book well rounded. Narrated beautifully. Only complaint it felt a little short.
