About this listen

Single mom Lizabeth Kane isn't exactly carpenter material: She's never picked up a hammer in her life. But she desperately needs the construction job that builder Matt Hallahan is offering. And even though he knows trouble is ahead, Matt can't refuse Lizbeth's irresistible smile.

Matt Hallahan isn't exactly relationship material: He has always been too busy working on other people's houses to make a home of his own. And even though she knows better, Lizabeth can't stop thinking about the rugged carpenter.

Is the relationship Matt and Lizabeth are building solid or more like a house of cards?

Editorial reviews

When Lizabeth Kane, a feisty, unemployed single mother, comes looking for a job from big-hearted builder Matt Hallahan, the romantic sparks fly. With her throaty, distinctive voice, which you will recognize from other Evanovich books, C.J. Critt does a credible job bringing these characters to life. Although the characters' voices are not particularly distinctive, Critt is so enthusiastic in her portrayals that her delivery does not detract from the overall impression and enjoyment. You will laugh out loud at Evanovich's eccentric characters, especially the Caddy-driving, wisecracking aunt, the food-stealing dog, and the persistent but less than "blessed" flasher. If you're looking to "zone out" for a few hours, this audiobook is your ticket.

Great book

Loved the way they incorporate the Aunt and the streaker. Plus Ferguson and his crazy antics. So funny.

Didn’t come together

I really wanted to love this book. I felt like the person reading the story had a voice that didn’t really match the main character. I thought the storyline was not developed enough.

Enjoyable !

Simple story line, funny at times, true feelings by female and sex driven male (normal male).

A mild romance with some interesting twists

What did you like best about Smitten? What did you like least?

The story line is not your average romance story, it's light on romance and plot and makes for a fast read. Aunt Elsie appears in several of Evanovich's stories - it'a a pleasure to have her back again. The biggest downers are 1) the streaker is not very believable, why would someone be so stupidly persistent and 2) the Elizabeth's voice is a bit grating.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Aunt Elsie and the kids interaction with Matt add a nice sideline. The streaker is the least interesting ... why would anyone go out so often with no reinforcement?

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The Elizabeth's voice is almost silly.

Was Smitten worth the listening time?

It's good if you want a light

Smitten

I absolutely love the story! So amazing. And I laughed so hard when Jason pushed his dad into the pool and all the photographers were taking pictures. I am so glad that Elizabeth finally agreed to marry Matt. And, he bought a boat and a jeep, to be able to pull the boat. I am so glad that she finally agreed to marry Matt. Next “Hero at Large.”

fun

and funny. If you're looking for soul-searching drama, this isn't the book for you. Looking for something that will make you laugh? Give it a try. I usually can't stand to listen to a book more than one time, but I've replayed this one.

Laugh out loud and distrub others around you!

What did you like best about this story?

Janet Evanovich is so funny! At some points in the book I am in tears from laughing so hard. I usually listen at work and I am sure people in the other cubicles think I am insane but some of the things she comes up with are just too funny and a laugh simply can't be stifled!

Have you listened to any of C.J. Critt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes! She is great! There has yet to be a performance from her I haven't liked!

Cute Story

This is really a cute story. Funny and loveable. The story will make you smile. Even though the story is predictable it is still a good read.
