Spending 18 summers at my Nana’s farm has been the highlight of my life. Learning how to work everything has taken many summers of trial and error, but it’s a passion. Doesn’t hurt that the Peak Farm adjoins hers, and their oldest son is just a few years older than me. He’s always helped me learn to do everything, including climbing trees and how to swim.
Nana is convinced we are star-crossed lovers, but he treats me as one of the boys. No one in either family - Wilkin or the Peak - has ever fallen for each other in hundreds of years that the farms have been in the families. Now, I’m not saying I’d kick Jerrie Peak out of my bed.
Will my path lead me to be a city lady like my mom, or will it lead me back to my family roots? Are we star crossed-lovers who haven’t slowed down enough to truly see each other?
The summer of my 18th birthday is going to bring many changes to my life.

"marry your best friend ". It's a great foundation. Kim needed a good throat punch most of the book. Her immaturity was really showing and it wasn't pretty. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.
Wake up and grow up kim

This summer is bound to be different than all the rest. Kim has an agenda and it begins with flirting, taunting, and teasing Jerry. Kim is determined to make this summer one Jerrie will never forget. Someone needs to move their friendship into more.
This short story packs a punch offering multiple layers of age-gap, arranged marriage, push n’ pull, city-girl versus country-guy, friends to lovers, and star-crossed lovers themes.
Kim’s character acts blasé towards Jerry’s motives. Her juvenile antics were annoying to listen to. I was disappointed by her behavior given Jerrie taught her how to manage the farm, yet her actions say otherwise.
This is short summer country romance. It’s a cheesy story that gives off that high school vibe. Kim’s character was far too immature, naive, and clueless. I couldn’t relate to her or understand her wishy washy ways. Her character was annoying and too young for my liking. I prefer strong independent women who have a better understanding of what they want and take charge of their lives.
Narrator:
Danielle Jacobs is a professional voice actor and is the solo performer of this short country romance. Danielle has a sweet southern voice suitable for Kim’s character.
I listened at 1.7 speed. Total listening time 2 hours 37 minutes. Included are 24 chapters and an epilogue. There’s a slight sound disturbance in the audiobook. This is an unabridged copy narrated in English.
I would’ve loved a nice southern country narrator to perform Jerrie’s character. Danielle is a good performer for female voices, but not great for a country guy. It took away from the listening experience.
This wasn’t my favorite type of read. That’s no fault of Danielle’s performance. This one of those times when a wish the performance exceeded the writing. Unfortunately, both the writing and performance was okay. It’s an easy listen with a happily ever after ending.
City girl meets country boy
