Publisher's summary

The universe needs a hero, or a drink. Probably both!

Dave's first day working on the wall does not go well. Through very little fault of his own, he finds himself embroiled in the ruthless, backstabbing, corrupt world of interplanetary politics. The money has all gone, people are turning on each other, and the whole colony of Copernicus is in utter turmoil. Dave fumbles his way around the left wing and the right wing, and wings he never even knew existed, looking for the answer to Copernicus's problems before it’s too late and the colony descends into a lawless hive of people wearing leather and sporting mohawks.

Unorthodox Humorous Story

I found most of this story to be entertaining. I liked that Simon Carr's story poked fun at several subjects including politics, religion, sexuality and more. While listening to the audiobook, there were times that I chuckled and times that I laughed out loud; however, there were times that the humor became too vulgar for my liking. Laura Robert's narration was great, and her performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Great story, but wrong narrator.

I have found a new author to follow. Simon Cart’s books are funny and that’s an understatement.
With that said, an audiobook needs a well paired narrator to pull off his humor well. The narrator in this audiobook was a young lady which I personally think would have been more successfully been done by a man, especially with cursing.
In my mind, it’s okay for men to curse and maybe an old woman who has lived a long life, but not a young woman. But for this, I totally enjoy his books.

P.S. another of his books, Our Fathers, has it all and nails the narration.

Space & Stuff “out there” with absurdity

I chose to listen to this audible because it is a scifi comedy and seemed like it would be a good fit for me. This first-person narrative seemed a little weird to me because it was mixed with past tense in some places and then announced who was speaking in other places, which reminded me of how screenplays are usually written. Social classes are divided, women aren’t treated as having a the same worth as a man, the indigenous populous of this planet are treated like animals with low IQs, and the leadership is corrupt. So, basically what humans do to each other on a daily bases and the author attempts to make this all humorous… which I found hard to laugh at. Perhaps it’s just not my type of humor? Probably.

It's “out there” with absurdity and very vulgar so it you like that sort of thing, this is definitely for you.
The author writes in his bio “ I write utter nonsense and you are a disgrace for reading it, the hell is wrong with you?” So, yeah, what do you expect? LOL.

Laura Roberts (the narrator) did a great job with all the different characters. Top notch voice actor.
