Can an ordinary man become the galaxy's last hope?

When aliens invade Las Vegas, one man is thrust into a battle beyond imagination, fighting the terrifying shock troops of a sprawling galactic empire. To protect a terrified child, he seizes the strange weapon of a fallen hero—an ancient, sentient sword—and is catapulted far into the future with no way back.

Now trapped in an alien world, he must master the sword's mysterious power and navigate a deadly game of political intrigue. But time is running out for humanity. As the stakes rise and enemies close in from every corner of the galaxy, he faces one burning question: Can he find a way home in time to save everything he once knew?

The story line was great. The narration was kinda difficult. The narrator was a bit to catatonic during times in the story that seemed intense. Seems like this is the only concern other listeners share about as well. I had a hard time sticking with it in the beginning. Once I got used to the wired narration, I was able to ignore it. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend the audio book but I would highly recommend reading the book

Good story, difficult narration

JN Channey never fails to provide a creative storyline that entertains. This one is unique with a sentient sword.

unique storyline

First, you may not like the narration. It's interesting. I'm used to Mark Boyett, Jeffrey K. etc. BUT I think the narrator nailed the true tone that a UPS driver with depth would have if he was flung into the future and needed to learn how to wield a sword.

Second, the story line was the hero's journey the way I like. It's all about his internal dialogue as he grapples with the circumstances he's thrown into.

I think you need to be in the right mood to truly enjoy this book. There is times I want Backyard Starship type of dialogue and action and other times I want to ride along with the hero hearing his thoughts and wondering if I would react the same way.

I can't wait for the next book. And yes, I can't wait to hear this narrator again. :-)

It's A Great Hero's Journey of Internal Dialogue

First thing…set the audio speed at 1.2…just trust me…
Some have said it’s slow to start…but the foundation that was laid at the beginning I really enjoyed…it is a great ride and left me wanting so much more!

Starblade will draw you in!

Great start!

After Earth is attacked by aliens, a good-natured guy attempts to fight off some ruthless monsters about to kill a child. Another alien steps in to support him, but is killed, leaving behind the "star blade". This sword is a living organism, and can jump through spacetime. Having chosen the MC as its new champion, they travel across the galaxy and into the far future, where they become embroiled in extraterrestrial politics and assassination attempts. The story is very straightforward for sci-fi; but remains entertaining throughout.

Simple, yet fun Star Wars-ish tale

So the mc gets a blade thats talked up pretty hard. The blade is able to kinda fast skip the weilder in fast foward for a little. The blade has time manipulating abilities and they keep saying it only ever goes foward. So mc gets moved foward from vegas where an invasion is happening to what looks like another world 3000 years into the future. Where its like he is immediately apprehend and becomes bodyguard to what seems to be a high ranking member of the political sphere. The book is just politics and pointing fingers about who killed the previous owner of the blade, Some rebels the mc got to fight, an assassin star blade. One of the two of the remaining star blades. It just gets kinda meh and boring.

Alright start but just got boring.

Not like other Chaney Moon collaborations. I’m glad I stuck with it. As expected it was very well written. The story definitely ramps up across the entire book. I cannot wait for the second book.

Slow to start.

The authors start with a Earth apocalyptic event, a MC thrust into future 3.5 millennial later and stumbling through 6 chapters with mostly inane dialog and inner turmoil trying to talk to his wonder sword/blade. The narrator comes across as an unbiased observer, speaking with little enthusiasm.

I was unable to finish the book.

Slow start, fractured progression
