About this listen

I wish I could tell you how cool this is.

With those words uttered by his best friend during an online chat, Austin Stone, a high school senior, forces himself to accept the fact his friends are leaving him behind.

With average grades, less than stellar play in baseball, and a single mother struggling to make ends meet, it looks as if Austin's only way to continue his education would be through some kind of miracle.

His only escape is playing an online space simulation, Star Runners. It seems to be the only environment in which he excels. However, being a champion Trident Starfighter isn't something you want to brag about in public nor will it help earn a scholarship.

But as soon as Austin is about to give up on college he reaches the top of the elite server. He receives an invitation from a school shrouded in secrecy promising to unlock his hidden potential. With no other options, Austin takes the offer.

What Austin doesn't realize is that his dream of going to college has just opened up the cosmos and will challenge everything Austin thinks he knows about himself and the universe.

This reader needs to be beaten.

It is unbelievable, that this Rader cannot pronounce the word "sword quote. I will do my best to avoid getting this narrator ever again. Who gets paid to read and pronounces the W in sword?

Fun ride, but better off reading the book.

Fun story similar to Last Starfighter. Audible version ruined by a narrator who sounds like he stepped right out of the movie Fargo. Ya-dare, hey.

Grade school level. A little disappointed.

The narration was a little stilted. It made some of the characters not believable. The story is definitely written to a very young audience as there are no high school level words and the story line is very simple. It's not a bad story, its just very simple.

Outstanding Story Line With a Great Narrative!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this audiobook to a friend. The author is very talented, keeping your interest and wanting to know what is going to happen next. If you are a person who loves to read but doesn't have time to sit down with a book, you will love this audiobook.

What did you like best about this story?

Not only is it a very interesting science fiction novel, but it also brings a great human interest story. Austin Stone feels he does not have a promising future, but suddenly he is given a chance of a lifetime. A compelling story that completely holds your interest.

What does Donald R Emero bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The author absolutely holds your interest. From the moment I started this novel, I was completely drawn in to the story. I am looking forward to the sequel.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

He did an excellent job. His words were very clear and concise. He brought the story alive with his use of inflection.

Any additional comments?

I read a review that stated the narrator mispronounced the word "shrugged". I did not hear this. Possibly it has been fixed? I think this would make a great movie!

Good juvenile fiction

Aimed at kids aged 8/9 with a simplistic story
Along the same lines as the kids movie "Enemy Mine" put out about 20 years ago

Fun story

I really enjoyed the story, but the narrator was terrible. He used no contractions and has a boring voice, but if you can overlook that it really is a pretty good story.

Shrug

The other uses the word shrugged, as in shrugged his shoulders, a lot. The narrator mispronounced it every time. Very annoying.
