About this listen

Long before the Clone Wars, the Empire, or the First Order, the Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in a golden age known as the High Republic!

Vernestra Rwoh is a new Jedi Knight at age 16, but her first real assignment feels an awful lot like babysitting. She's been charged with supervising 12-year old aspiring inventor Avon Starros on a cruiser headed to the dedication of a wondrous new space station called Starlight Beacon.

But soon into their journey, bombs go off aboard the cruiser. While the adult Jedi try to save the ship, Vernestra, Avon, Avon's droid, J-6, a Jedi Padawan, and an ambassador's son make it to an escape shuttle, but communications are out and supplies are low. They decide to land on a nearby moon, which offers shelter but not much more. And unbeknownst to them, danger lurks in the forest.

Featured Article: The Definitive Guide to the Canonical Star Wars Timeline

The Star Wars timeline is complicated. With a recently reestablished canon, a tendency toward nonlinear storytelling, and an ongoing creative surge of new films, television series, books, and comics expanding the already massive universe, it can be incredibly difficult for even the most dedicated among us to keep the Star Wars timeline straight. This unofficial timeline explainer offers a brief illumination of each period and the stories set within.

Great for all ages

I just finished light of the Jedi before starting this one. Obviously this one was meant for a younger age group but even I (26) enjoyed it. It was a very quick listen, great character development in a short time, fresh take on what’s “possible” in Star Wars, and even though the plot could have been simplified into maybe an hour listen I still found myself not wanting it to end.

Great YA content

I liked the story, but it's more geared towards YA audiences. Great gift idea though!

Good story just one thing.

Good story, easy enough to follow in a car ride but one thing just kept getting repeated that I felt like nails on a chalkboard to me. The species pronunciation for the non-human character I personally believe is incorrect. Thankfully it wasn't said too many times.

Entertaining and interesting

Overall a good tie into the main story, I was fascinated by the introduction of the lightsaber whip into canon. With the mention of starlight beacon again in this book I can only see a foreshadow of destruction

Give this book a chance!

There is fruitful reflection to be found in this story. Regardless of age, this book offers useful thought fodder. And, my thanks to Justina Ireland and her production crew. <3

Worthy Successor to Jedi Apprentice series

While it's short and not too complicated, it introduces some memorable characters and creative settings. It reads like the first episode of a TV series and reminds me of the old Jedi Apprentice books I read when I was a kid, but is still enjoyable enough for readers of all ages.

Great listen

Like mentioned in other reviews, this is certainly intended for a younger audience, but a great expansion of the High Republic period. Adding in more understanding of how the Jedi were and the expansion of the Republic, and the depths of Nihil deceit and treachery. Would definitely recommend as a fan of this series.

Not bad

As Star Wars stories for a younger audience go this is pretty good. It doesn’t shy away from the heavy subject matter of processing loss. The narrator does a pretty good job too. Overall a decent listen.
