Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Michael A. Stackpole continues The New Jedi Order epic with Dark Tide II: Ruin, a thrilling Star Wars adventure in which the Jedi Knights must fight their most treacherous battle - against an unrelenting evil intent on devouring the galaxy....

The alien Yuuzhan Vong have launched an attack on the worlds of the Outer Rim. They are merciless, without regard for life - and they stand utterly outside the Force. Their ever-changing tactics stump the New Republic military. Even the Jedi, once the greatest guardians of peace in the galaxy, are rendered helpless by this impervious foe - and their solidarity has begun to unravel.

While Luke struggles to keep the Jedi together, Knights Jacen Solo and Corran Horn set off on a reconnaissance mission to the planet Garqi, an occupied world. There, at last, they uncover a secret that might be used to undermine the enemy - if only they can stay alive long enough to use it!

Fairly good story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Star Wars. It continues the NJO series and finishes the Dark Tide duology.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have changed the wrap-up after the climax of the story. The wrap-up as written was unsatisfying, and disappointing after the good ending of the climax.

Which character – as performed by Anthony Heald – was your favorite?

Corran Horn is the star of this novel.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book showed the Jedi gaining some ground. it also showed the foolishness of trying to make premature peace with a warrior culture.

Any additional comments?

SPOILER ALERT:

I thought the introduction of the spores was an ingenious way to give the New Republic an upper hand over the Vong, but this storyline just dies in this novel. I also thought it strange that Corran Horn defeats his enemy, yet instead of getting a hero's welcome he is blamed for the Vong's deceit. I found this unsatisfying.

Abridged is a no go

Great story good narrations all suffer from the abridgment. Really wish we would get full versions of the NJO series but it will probably never happened since its designated “Legends”

Still needs to be unabridged…

Actor has finally found his pacing from the last few, but the production and volume of the background music often overshadows him. At times the audio sounds compressed. Needs to be improved and unabridged as much of the actual book gets lost in this version. 4/10 might listen again
