About this listen

Sacrificing and dying to oneself is costly.

But doing so brings new purpose and joy.

As a private investigator, Sybil Huxham has seen her fair share of strange occurrences. But nothing in her career has been more perplexing than the miracles she’s witnessed as a result of people drinking ancient holy water. When she discovers more of the rare holy water, she experiences strange overlaps with a nobleman in the Middle Ages who is languishing in a dungeon, accused of treason and condemned to die. To save his life, she finally crosses to the past completely.

Nicholas Worth has never met a woman quite like Sybil, and as the two run for their lives into the Weald, they find refuge among a community of outlaws. With both their reputations on the line, they have little choice but to marry. As they get to know each other, an undeniable attraction develops. But danger and disease chase after them, drawing ever closer. Will they be able to escape the threats? And will Sybil choose to stay with Nicholas in the past, or will she be ripped apart from him forever?

The continuation of the series was well done. It brings all characters from first book to their own conclusions.

There are few books that I thoroughly enjoy at this level and this is one of them. The whole series has been excellent so far and it is wonderful news to learn that there will be more in this series to look forward to. I would like to mention that the narrator did a wonderful narration and it was the perfect complement to the book. Thank You for a thoroughly enjoyable story.

I loved the time period for this time-travel adventure. The main characters had a spicy amount of attraction from the start. He’s a noble from the 1300’s. She’s a detective from the present. With surprising skills at fighting using her modern kickboxing and police training, Sybil saves the life of a handsome noble from dungeons and plagues, but he saves her too from her own demons.
Loved it!

I loved this story…perfect amount of romance and suspense!

Enjoyed the continuation of this story… Enjoyed the two main characters… really liked Nicholas and Sybil thought they made a good couple … liked that Sybil was not a whiner… tough yet feminine…Nicholas strong but sensitive…storyline seemed a little incomplete at times but overall worth the credit..

Hmmm

It was a decent book. It so easy to give opinions from the sideline, and this is just mine, which the hardcore fans could set me on fire for… ;) The thing that struck me about this book in particular was the constant glances, touches, awareness, heat, and longing… way more than the other two books of the series, and maybe more than any of all of the other books I’ve read by Headlund. And it was almost from “go” at that. Of course the first two books in the series gave us the “how” of this time travel word, and all the background of the holy water and molecule transport, so it was easy to jump to the chemistry I suppose. I have listened to many of Hedund’s books now, and most of the relationships are a good read and don’t get boring. The constant chemistry reminders in this one actually got a little tiresome for me at one point, and it almost felt like the other details of the story were more of a backdrop for the main plot of desire. There were several plot points and characters that I would have loved to have seen developed a bit more instead.

A lovely positive for this book…I was extremely grateful for the absence of the typical and overused misunderstanding or quiet assumptions that keep a couple apart. This felt far more genuine than plot lines that keep the characters struggling and lead to frustration and imagined rejection for either character when all I scream inside is “just talk about it!"

My favorite part was the superbly intriguing end, and I literally stopped what I was doing to listen completely. That was perhaps the best part of the whole book, and definitely has hooked me into watching for book 4. Overall, I will listen to it again. There are some nice points and characters that I will enjoy revisiting.

Decent read, but more “tension” than other books
