About this listen

Captain Kyle Roberts delivered one of the Castle Federation's few victories in the early days of the war. Even losing his ship in the process didn't prevent him from being elevated as the hero - the "Stellar Fox" - his country desperately needed. His status with the public demands a worthy command, and he finds himself on the bridge of the federation's latest supercarrier and headed to the front lines of the war.

But the navy sees his promotion as a public relations stunt. His subordinates and superiors alike question his lack of experience, and enemies at the highest level of his own government maneuver to destroy him. As the war heats up around him, the Commonwealth may not be the greatest threat to Kyle Roberts or Avalon.

Just a few issues

Would you listen to Stellar Fox again? Why?

No, I rarely if ever listen to a book twice.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Stellar Fox?

Robert's confrontation with the Lord Captain in the Avalon's conference room.

Which scene was your favorite?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had that kind of time, yes.

Any additional comments?

I love the story. I like the political intrigue and battle tactics. Two little things bug me:

1) I am getting a little annoyed with everyone but the hero apparently being either a lesbian/homosexual/bisexual/hypersexual. We have the slut navigator, lesbian pilot and her nurse lover, bisexual Admiral, and mention of a flaming homosexual ship captain just to name a few. I guess the author is trying to make the 28th century seem progressive and inclusive, but all he's done is muddy up the story line.

2) Every scene change is announced with the location, date, and the "Earth Standard Meridian Date Time" I'm sure when the book is read in print that is a minor thing that can b e absorbed in a glance. In the audio version, it's getting on my nerves. But that is just me.

All in all though the book is worth the listen and I look forward to continuing the series.

great story, but time/date/loc stamps unnecessary

There were a few moments that I had to suspend disbelief for a while, but action and pacing was excellent. That said, the time/date/location stamps were unnecessary and could've been skipped

Could be better.

I still think Jack Campbell did it the best. The pseudo science just got in the way of the story.

Even better than book 1

I enjoyed book 1, but I enjoyed this one more. There is more character development , and some interesting plot developments. Started off with too much repetitive battles, but that didn’t last too long. I gave it 4 stars, because there is still room for improvement, but I'm certainly continuing with the series.
