About this listen

Mars destroyed his ship - but gave him a new one.

Mars drafted his Mage - for the good of humanity!

He should have known that wouldn’t be the end of it….

Captain David Rice has a new ship, a new crew, and a new set of Jump Mages to carry him between the stars. All he wants is to haul cargo, make money and keep his head down.

His past, however, is not so willing to let him go. An old enemy is reaching out from beyond the grave to destroy any chance of peace or life for Captain Rice - and old friends are only making things more complicated!

All he wants is to be a businessman, but as the death toll mounts he must decide what is more important: his quiet life or the peace humanity has enjoyed for centuries.

narrator ruins a good story

Good story but narrator makes it difficult to enjoy. He speaks in monotones with odd pacing. sometimes he reads too fast to take in the details and other times he pauses for no reason.

So that's what happened to the Red Dawn crew!

This book tells the story of the Captain of the crew of the Red Dawn and how the Mage King used them and their new ship they were given. Powerful ship for cargo and trouble!

Love the story!

I love this story and the universe it takes place in but the performance by both of the narrators leaves much to be desired. I had a hard time telling what character was speaking at times and there voices were monotone.

Great narration.

The dual narration was much better than I thought it would be after seeing other reviews.

Great story hurt by readers

This is a great addition to the SM Universe. I love Glynn Stewart's books but this one is really hurt by the readers and the productions quality. Neither reader captures the characters and they both insist on having accents that they can't pull off. The echo effect is puzzling and distracting. That said it's a great story and if you can't stand the readers, read the book - you'll love it.

Good Book, Mediocre Narration

If you are going to have multiple narrators then it would probably be better to have it sound like they are talking to each other instead of reading prepared speeches at each other.
Despite the lack of coordination between the two readers, the story itself shines through. Though maybe pick up a text copy instead of the audiobook.

A must read for a series fan

a little weird how the narrator switch but you get used to it and it does add quite a bit to the experience. An overall great book

Good book

This new foray into the starship mage universe was good. The audio book has some strange transitions but is listenable. I can't wait for the next book.

The strange accents were a bad Idea.

I love the Glynn Stewart and have followed Damien Montgomery all over the universe in large part thanks to the excellent Narration. This Narration is a huge disappointment after that. It is poorly done want to be British accents and a not quite Scottish with some Indian influences thrown in. It is a distraction from the story.

amateur performance

Story had potential but read like it was originally written in another language and a computer changed it into English with no human editing. I did not finish this book. May come back to it when I have nothing else to listen to.
