About this listen
Legendary NBA trainer Drew Hanlen—performance coach to stars like MVP Joel Embiid and Jayson Tatum—reveals his proven, step-by-step system for personal and professional transformation that has fueled the success of some of the top athletes and business leaders in the world.
If you clicked on this book, it’s because somewhere deep down, you know you’ve been bullshitting yourself. You know that making more money, landing a better job, and finally getting in great shape will make your life better. But for some reason, you’ve settled.
You’ve read self-help books, listened to peak-performance podcasts, dieted and exercised, and tried countless other remedies. But you still haven’t found solutions to your biggest problems. What can you start doing to finally turn your life around?
The answer is to Stop Bullshitting Yourself. This book is a game plan for doing just that.
For the past two decades, Drew Hanlen has helped many of the world’s best basketball players reach levels that they didn’t think were attainable—from winning gold medals, championships, MVP and scoring titles to being selected to the All-Star and All-NBA teams.
In Stop Bullshitting Yourself, you’ll learn the system that has propelled them to success, and how to apply these same strategies to every aspect of your life.
Designed for those who are tired of making empty promises to themselves and who are ready to make real change in their lives, Stop Bullshitting Yourself provides a step-by-step approach to:
- Audit and eliminate the excuses, thoughts, and habits holding you back.
- Develop detailed Blueprint Bubbles to facilitate action using simple, achievable steps.
- Design MicroShifts, repeatable behaviors that break down your goals into manageable chunks.
- Put in The Unseen Hours: work that works.
If you’re tired of making excuses and ready to achieve the results you've always wanted, let’s get started.

Orphaned at just thirteen in a still-segregated Washington, D.C., George Raveling was introduced to a relatively unpopular sport—basketball—in high school. The rest, as they say, is history. Raveling went on to become one of the winningest coaches of all time, a mentor to legendary athletes, and a confidant of the sport’s greatest coaches, including Bob Knight and John Wooden. He convinced Michael Jordan to collaborate with Nike on the Air Jordan. He led the 1984 U.S. men’s Olympic team to their ninth gold medal.

On the playing field, natural talent isn’t enough—there’s a mental component that determines whether athletes win the race or wipe out before the finish line. But what separates standout sports stars from the rest? In a paradigm-shifting new theory, acclaimed sportswriter Matt Fitzgerald identifies two key traits behind athletic success: strict self-regulation over thoughts and emotions and an unquenchable psychological need to pursue victory—even when it means enduring extreme mental and physical suffering.

Whether it’s anxiety about going to the doctor, boiling rage when we’re stuck in traffic, or devastation after a painful break-up, our lives are filled with situations that send us spiraling. But as difficult as our emotions can be, they are also a superpower. Far from being “good” or “bad,” emotions are information. When they’re activated in the right ways and at the right time, they function like an immune system, alerting us to our surroundings, telling us how to react to a situation, and helping us make the right choices. But how do we make our emotions work for us rather than against us?

We all take for granted the idea that being in nature makes us feel better. But if you were a skeptic who wanted hard scientific evidence for this idea, where would you look? And how would that evidence be gathered? It wasn't until Dr. Kathy Willis was asked to contribute to an international project looking for the societal benefits we gain from plants that she stumbled across a study that radically changed the way she saw the natural world. In the study there was clear proof that patients recovering from gall bladder operations recovered more quickly if they were looking at trees.

We all know we Bullshit ourselves
I first heard about this book on ET’s YouTube channel. & because I’ve learned so much from his S2S podcast channel watching his interview with Drew got me interested in this book. The title definitely stood out to me especially at this time in my life as I’m on a health journey right now & I know I need to stop bullshitting myself & stop making excuses of why my health isn’t where it needs to be!!! This book was so encouraging & I loved all the stories Drew weaved through each chapter of the book. I’m truly inspired to take control & leave the bullshit excuses behind!!!!
