Science heavy for those of us who want the why

This isn't ra-ra touchy feely stuff, tho' it's highly motivating. This is section by section here's a tool, here's why it works, here are the results from when I tried it data driven advice. Each chapter ends with exercises to help you make the changes work and last.

My one complaint is with the audio format. Because of the chapter lengths, it's virtually impossible to back up and replay sections in your car or using a voice command Amazon device. I wish more audiobook producers kept in mind that reference book listeners need better divisions for stopping, flagging, rewinding, etc. But I wasn't going to punish the author by yanking a point from what turned out to be excellent information in a sea of "feel better" self help books that don't have much behind the advice. This one gives excellent and useful tools backed up by studies.

I was particularly struck around Chapter 7 or 8 with the observation that society trains people to be mediocre as a herd safety mechanism because it's dangerous to be an outlier (or words to that effect). Carrying that one with me.

Great Read! Get Used to Being Uncomfortable!

Enjoyed this book immensely. Great information on the benefits and dangers of our social media/hooked in mindsets. Practical information on how to manage your life and be aware of your lizard brain and the need for instant gratification. We do things on how we feel...be aware of this and do things that align with your plans and goals....Eff your Feelings. Reading style was easy to understand and the action items/review items at the end of every chapter were great. Highly recommend.

I WANT A F*CK YOUR FEELINGS TSHIRT NOW

I want to order a t-shirt as a reminder to myself! F*CK how you feel and do it anyway! This was a great book. Broke down the science and research around the basis of the book and with the excellent examples you can truly count it as legit and take it to heart. The steps listed to help execute this is amazing as well. I will be listening to it again and taking way more notes and will probably order a hard copy as well. A true textbook for living life!

The tile says it all...hard hitting no BS

These days it is really hard to judge a book by it's cover. Not so with Ryan Munsey's book. If you have any doubts about what the book will be like after reading the cover I'm really not sure what to tell you.

The book is a hard hitting, not for Snowflakes, guide to getting over yourself and getting on with what needs to get done. This a rare approach these days and one that I applaud. It's not Shakespeare or a Harlequin piece but is is a "no excuses" "no apologies" guide to help people get out of their own way.

Mr. Munsey isn't the best narrator that I've ever heard but there is a level of authenticity that comes from the author presenting his own piece in this kind of a "Wake the F up" kind of a book. I'm not sure it would be as good if it had been presented by a 3rd party narrator.

Summary: If you looking for a warm fuzzy self-help book...Read the cover again!!. If you want to get past your issues which all the other self help books didn't help with..try something new and listen to this book. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result, then your in luck! Ryan Munsey's book is definitely not the "same" as the other books out there.

if you're mind is ready for this, it's mind blowing

more than I had expected by far... extremely educating in Gut health and brain connectivity. patterns and neurological communications between the 2 systems. Dopamine and HRV information... all phenomenal and delivered impressively.

love it... will be listening to it on loop for the next couple weeks. I can basically run the whole book for a full day in the shop and pull new things from it every time.

It is one of the best self-help books I have read.

Full of scientific and practical evidences, advice on how to use the chunk of data provided by other researchers.
The Structure of the most of this book is in a pattern, ‘give the theory/thesis of something’s benefit, give data to prove, give explanation how to use, give real life examples (mostly personal) and sum up. His social interaction in the book is incredible and found a good way to communicate with younger generation as well as older generation.

Life and mental health transforming.

That’s it. It’s worth every penny. I wish I was longer. So soothing and comforting with how science based it was. It was like talking to an educated old friend. I have pmdd and this is exactly what I needed. So encouraging, inspiring, and motivating. Not overwhelming or fluffy at all. Should be required reading for everyone everywhere.

Just Do It Mentality

I think the book was good and the author certainly did his homework. He shares a go out and do it without excuses attitude that is motivating and positive. I learned some new things/techniques and validated some things I've read elsewhere about emotional intelligence. Perhaps the best thing I learned was that reading can be used to form your support/tribe when stuck in places that lack. I think, and pardon me for sounding self-defeating, sometimes the book side-steps real adversity challenges with a "fuck it, do you - manifest your destiny" attitude. I'm not certain minorities have the same privilege as the author but I hope I'm wrong.
