About this listen

From Hugo and Dragon Award finalist David VanDyke, and millions-selling science-fiction legend and Dragon finalist B.V. Larson, comes book five in the epic military space opera adventure saga!

It’s been five years since the end of the Hive Wars. Straker has handed over the burden of governing the Earthan Republic to civil authorities.

This should be a happy time, as Straker and his most loyal soldiers retire to a planet and step off the galactic stage. Unfortunately, authoritarian forces within the Earthan Republic are still simmering with rage at his victory. Rumors reach Straker of a growing new Republic Fleet manned by state loyalists. Planets begin to fall under their influence and go dark. Even in retirement, they see Straker’s Breakers as a threat.

Fearing he may have to move again in the name of freedom and the people, Straker begins to train and plan. Will they dare to come for him? His battlesuiters have formed families and planted roots on Culloden. What of their children and stories of neighboring worlds reverting to dictatorships?

Straker’s Breakers prepare to fight again, alone and without support, in this new novel of military science fiction by David VanDyke and B. V. Larson.

This is the fifth book in the Galactic Liberation series. Look for book number one, Starship Liberator, if you’re new to this expanding universe.

Finally

Excellent series. Space Opera, distopian, hero, several protagonist, many antagonist, furious space and ground battles, no belabored over developed political intrigue... just good ole good guys vs. bad guys good guys win, many morals to the story and just enough at the end to wonder if another book in the series is coming!

Too much politics

This book seemed like it was trying to re-start a series that had already been successfully concluded. Not all that much happened and most of the situations seemed contrived. In the end the political situation that developed seemed dry and implied more dry politics in future volumes. Not one I'm likely to continue with.

Out with the old, in with the new

This chapter in the series finds Straker's Breakers fleeing the Earthen Republic they helped liberate due to it once again falling into despotic control and bent on defeating their liberating armada. They escape into the rim of the galaxy to hunt for new digs in which to lay down new roots.

They encounter a beguiling earthen woman who agrees to help them out but is all too secretive about her motives for doing so. She really is the only major new player in this book and plays a pivotal role in guiding and assisting the Breakers as they maneuver to find a new home.

While the plot arc is new, its unraveling is somewhat predictable and somewhat stunted. There are a lot of possible new directions discussed but nothing really decided as the book ends.

I like this more than I thought I would

I really likes this despite having slightly mixed feelings.
I both feel it is starting to look like one of those TV shows that should have ended by now, but at the same time I get those reminiscent feelings from role playing games back in the day I. having finished one campaign and just about to embark on another perhaps even more exciting one.

Straker’s Breakers - Book 5 of the series.

This book provided a solid ending to retire the old and get ready for the young. I liked this Solution to end a active lifetime of war and now the coming retirement.
