Publisher's summary

When humanity reaches for the stars, our probes are destroyed. They crash into an incredibly advanced piece of technology: a massive force-field. Unknown beings have placed a barrier around our star and planets, enclosing us within. We’re locked inside a Great Sphere.

Was this invisible obstacle built to imprison us - or to protect us? No one knows the truth, but it soon becomes clear the barrier has leaks. Aliens infiltrate and try to sabotage our efforts to escape our cage.

A warship crewed by military people and scientists beta-test an engine designed to pass through the barrier. Chief Gray, a security officer from Control, is assigned to help. His mission is critical: Earth must escape her bonds at all costs, even if it means war with our hostile neighbors.

War of the Spheres is a new novel by James Millington and B. V. Larson, a best-selling SF author with over three million copies sold.

Good Read

This book was a lot different than most of the SFi that I read. I hope there is a follow up book, you could do a lot with the character Gray.

need a backstory

Good story, but I hope the next book delves in to Gray's backstory. Maybe tell it in some Godfather 2 type flashbacks. Otherwise a typical entertaining BV Larson story.

meh...

story seriously struggles to entertain. gray is a dick, and so is everyone else in this story. main struggle doesn't really seem to be aliens but dumb people in power. the premise is suppose to be, make sure an engine works... aliens are attacking to stop, but everyone is a dick to try and get it to work. BV Larson, please go work more on undying marine series and not this.
99% of the struggle in this book could be solved by giving the secret commando Chief Grey a higher rank.

I really enjoyed it. I want more!

I know this isn’t the typical book that we’ve come to expect from BV Larson. It was a pretty good story though, maybe it’s just because I’m a captive audience. My career as a truck driver means I am always looking for more content. The main character in this book was a bit more “matter of fact” protocol driven than we were used to. There were a few gaps and in my opinion failed linkages in the story. I just feel like if the series were to continue farther we would fill a lot of those gaps. I don’t think it exactly compares to a lot of the other work out there that we’ve become used to with Larson, But we also have another author James Millington and his style might be different. But I still think it’s worth listening to. I feel really bad that a lot of the reviews have been negative

Larsen & Millington Have Succeeded

This new book was great fun to listen to and the story was just plain good. I've loved every book Larsen has written and Millinton's contribution was seemless to that track record. I hope there will be more to this series as this book just taps the possibilities of this story line.

It's BV Larson involved - Ofcourse Its Good!

Soon as I started this book it immediately hooked me. Action-packed throughout, leaving you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Chief Grey kicks butt, all the while figuring out the mystery of the sphere.

I was a little shocked that this seems to be a one-time book. It left room for a sequel. Perhaps it will be.

If this were a series, I'd buy the next book.

Now I wouldn't call this a hidden gem. But I still enjoyed the story and the steady trickle of this universes lore. I feel many authors struggle with giving so much lore that the plot becomes secondary or so much plot, that no lore is ever given. This was a good balance and I would be excited to explore this universe further. The universe has enough uniqueness that I would remember it after a few years which is saying something for some one who listens to half a dozen sci-fi novels a month.

Tldr; If you've already read all of the best Hard Science Fiction/space novels, this is another good one to add to the list.

The Sphere

Great story line. It may be similar to other Si Fi but its original to me. Found it interesting and entertaining and left me with the idea we would see Chief Gray again soon.
