About this listen

Hugo Award Winner for Best Series

A novella set in the hard-scrabble world of James S. A. Corey's NYT best-selling Expanse series, Strange Dogs follows a family of colonists on Laconia where a new generation of humanity struggles with the profound changes that come with making a home on an alien world. Now a Prime Original series.

Like many before them, Cara and her family ventured through the gates as scientists and researchers, driven to carve out a new life and uncover the endless possibilities of the unexplored alien worlds now within reach.

Nice Novella giving bigger view of Expanse universe. Would of course loved to see entire book that pulled in these characters ( other than Duarte who IS in the series ). I really enjoyed this and happy I bought it; got much more out of this than Vital Abyss.

Nice novella addition to Expanse series

Holy cow THAT went in a strange direction.... Someday I hope we hear more about the "dogs" and the "stick moons" because that planet is gonna shake things up.

With Strange Dogs author James Corey adeptly adds to his acclaimed Expanse series by introducing us to the world of Laconia...a planet very much like Earth...but different. Corey let's us experience Laconia through the senses of an adolescent human girl named Cara. She sees the alien planet through the eyes of a child for whom it is the only home she has known. Corey evokes wonderous and magical imagery reminiscent of Juliet Andromeda Mao as she became Eros in his inaugural Expanse novel. He seems to be asking, what humans can become when we venture beyond our terrestrial home...when WE become extraterrestrial? Voice talents are beautifully handled by Jefferson Mays. Strange Dogs satisfies on every level! Perfect.

Perfect Novella!

Refreshing to see this world through the eyes of a human child that knows nothing else.

Great perspective

Fans of the mainline Expanse books know the novellas fill in interesting aspects of the story. This one is a different style. While the content fits the Expanse universe the story is essentially a YA plot. It's a bit dark -- call it PG-13 for violence, adult language, and adult themes. We'll see how (if) it fits in the big picture when the next Expanse novel comes out later this year.

Different...

You definitely have to read this after Babylon to understand what's happening on Laconia, but I wasn't crazy about the story.

Important after Babylon, but not Wow
