About this listen

Each death is unique. Will you recognize when yours begins?
John Camden doesn't realize he's dying, yet the physical signs are becoming more clear, and he's having recurring visions where he is trapped in a tight space.

Everything changes when his best friend Robbie convinces him to go on a poorly planned caving trip as a form of immersion therapy.
Soon the lines of reality blur as John finds himself lost and alone, deep underground where all is not as it seems, and the person he trusted most may have sinister intentions.

Being stuck in a cave sounds like the worst thing I could imagine, but somehow Ben Young found ways to make it worse. This book gave me some serious claustrophobia and managed to touch on one of my secret fears. I won't say more for fear of spoilers, but I definitely recommend checking this one out.

It's really hard to write a review without giving away the ending, but highly recommend picking this up and giving it a try. You create such an emotional connection to the characters and can recreate the imagery with your mind with Young's extensive descriptions. Well done!

What a unique story

This story concept is so cool. The first half, or maybe two-thirds of it feel a little disjointed but like, you can tell it's leading somewhere. And when it all comes together, it's just mind-blowing!! My only real gripe is the narrator handling female voices which, I can understand isn't necessarily easy for a masculine voice to pull off. No marks against the overall story for that.

A cool concept that really pulls itself together

I spent a couple drives to work listening to this book. I even snuck some listens in at work as I was roped into the plot and wanted desperately to find out what happened next. The book was not at all what I expected, in a good way. I went in expecting a cave diving adventure and got something great I didn't expect. The story was written and executed amazingly. I actually had to re-listen to parts because it caught me off guard and I wasn't expecting certain things to happen. Great book if you are looking for something fresh and different.

Didn't see that coming

I went in blind, and boy was I thrilled with the path this book took me. It was extremely well written. It had turns and curves I had NOT expected. Absolutely one of my favorite reads of 2024!!!

It was fun and captivating. It kept me wanting to read more, and not put it down.

I will be looking up all of Ben Young’s books! I want more!

The narrator did a great job. I will look for other books he narrates. He didn’t take me out of the book.

A MUST READ!

I listened to this book based on a lot of online hype on Facebook, but it took me so long to get through. I truly felt stuck waiting for the story to get going. This is the first audiobook I’ve ever listened to at high speed just to get through it faster. I never connected with the story and I think a lot of that had to do with the narration.
