About this listen

The tower appeared overnight, but it wants to keep you forever.

Thursday night, it was a dirt lot.

Friday morning, it was a 60-story skyscraper.

A tech billionaire wants the building’s secrets for herself. She hires a team to reverse-engineer the overnight construction, but she knows more than she’s letting on.

A curious nine-year-old decides there’s treasure inside and goes exploring. His terrified dad chases close behind. Inside, the facade of an empty office building is quickly shattered. Ghostly figures stalk the explorers. The walls themselves are hungry. And something is waiting on the top floor.

I loved this cosmic horror tale, and Eddie will live inside my heart forever. I feel like I’m going to think twice entering any office building or elevator.

Claustrophobic and compelling

This is an excellent cosmic horror story about a skyscraper that shows up overnight out of nowhere, maybe an alternate reality? It’s a really creepy storyline with no downtime, plenty of action and keeps moving forward. I was invested in the characters and they were interesting and well developed. Among them a father and son, a flawed woman billionaire and a college professor. I am looking forward to reading much more of this authors work and recommend this book to all horror fans especially lovers of cosmic horror. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook while reading along on the kindle. The audio version was very well performed and added a great deal to how I felt about the story.

Excellent Cosmic Horror …

The beginning was a bit slow but once they got inside it picks up. The thing at the top was a bit anntic after all the build up , I mean the title says it all, It waits on the top floor. So you are already expecting and waiting to see what it will be. But overall I did enjoy it and it kept me listening throughout. And I will definitely check out the next in the series when it comes out. I believe it’s worth your credit and don’t believe anyone would be disappointed.

Entertaining

I absolutely loved this book. It had long leggity beasties, a bizarre building, good protagonists & villains, & a great ending. I smiled the whole time I was listening...and giggled ghoulish (scaring my neighbors while on the sun deck. 😃😁 Definitely treat yourself to this super-fun beach read. I'm about to buy the authors other audiobooks & Kindle books; I'm a total fan!

Good, old-school horror!

Audiobook Review
Title: It Waits on the Top Floor
Author: Ben Farthing
Narrator: KC Johnston
Book Rating: 3.75 Stars
Narration Rating: 4 Stars

It Waits on the Top Floor by Ben Farthing is a fast, fun, quick read that kept me entertained throughout. From the beginning pages to the epic conclusion of the story, I was left on the edge of my seat with dread, waiting for the final shoe to drop.

When a 60-story skyscraper appears overnight many people start questioning how that happened. A team was quickly put together to break into the building and reverse engineer it to learn how it just appeared. When a curious nine-year-old hears there might be treasure inside he goes exploring. His newly adopted dad joins the team to find his son. What seems like an empty office building soon becomes a place of terror with haunting creatures following their every move. Everything in this place is evil, and it keeps drawing them to the top floor.

As I said previously, this story is compelling and really drew me in. The narration was top-notch, and each character had their own voice. I never had to question what character was talking. One of the things that dropped my rating a little bit was some of the conversations the characters were having seemed either a little too forced or just unnatural. Especially when it came to the dad, I feel like the conversations made it want to search the building more instead of finding his son, and I just didn’t feel like that was real.

Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this story. I sped through it constantly wondering what was next and looking forward to what waiting on the top floor. I enjoyed the liminal spaces aspect, as well as the cosmic horror that appeared throughout. If you are looking for a fast read that will instantly pull you in and doesn’t pull any punches, pick this one up now!

Decently written, decently read, creepy and fun. I could have enjoyed more early exploration of the building but it may hve thrown off the pacing. I liked it.

Intriguing concept

This book is a little frustrating in parts, it has such a great concept and I liked the main character enough but I dislike the “oh here’s a kid, he’s gunna do something dumb to progress the story” trope. The horror elements are close to scary but miss the mark at times and the voice acting for one of the goon guys is pretty bad. This was so close to being a super good book, it instead lives in a land of “it’s fine”. Concepts good enough I may read the next one, but I’ll wait for it to be on sale.

Good concept, less great execution.

The book feels like it’s droning on in some parts, but the overall storyline is interesting.

Not a lot of Standard Mythos going on, Decent Story Arc
