The core thesis of pastor/marriage counselor Gary Chapman's most popular book, New York Times best seller The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, is that "[m]ost in our society have not yet the learned the difference between in love and real love" (133). Chapman begins by outlining these two loves, as they apply to a marriage:

Romantic love, which is akin to obsession, is an irrational, temporary, powerful, quasi-biological state that lasts roughly two years, full of madness and elation and a (possibly superficial) complete absorption of the self into another. This contrasts to emotional love, which is complicated, disciplined, rational, intentional, and ultimately enduring. People fall into patterns, and as polemical as Chapman's thinking and explanations can sound, his advice is earnest and clear.

Lovable Book

So Refreshing and info that I did'nt even know I needed! Our marriage was in a rut & I can honestly say that when trying some suggestions from the book my wife immediately responded. She even wanted to listen to the book with me and we discussed things as we listened. It has brought us so much closer and helped us to connect again while learning more about ourselves and each other.

incredibly useful book

I found this book to be incredibly useful I'm glad I didn't waste my time reading the entire book because the summary was perfect. it captured the essence of the book in a short period of time. The summary is too short so in order to understand and fix the concept it was enough for me.

Good and Quick Summary

This is just what it purports to be: a good quick summary of a much longer work. If you are interested and want more, buy the book. It would be nice if these were free, but someone has to bear the costs of preparing a summary and making it available. I thought this one was quite clear. I also think that in many cases, the central idea of a non-fiction book can be summarized in a few paragraphs or pages and that the rest is all padding with examples. This summary is a wonderful time-saver.

Best self help book

I focused 100% on these words. I read this per my wife's request.
I feel her pain now as I just didn't get it.
I had tears as I realized how hard she has been trying to make things work.
Such devotion is priceless and I will work to make this happen.
Great words
