About this listen

Camp Shady Oaks - Fun by the Lake Since 1958!

For over four decades, Camp Shady Oaks was the premiere youth camp for a summer filled with nature, survival skills, and fun in the remote woods of the Hiawatha National Forest. In 1999, it was forced to close abruptly when tragedy struck.

What is now the abandoned location of one of Michigan’s most notorious unsolved mysteries gains national attention when former camper Quinn Harstead pens a best-selling account of the events that occurred.

The camp remains empty and frozen in time for 23 years before Quinn receives an invitation for its grand reopening.

Will she return to the place that continues to haunt her memories in search of answers, or will the secrets of Shady Oaks stay buried forever?

Loved

It’s a great story and you can’t wait to get to the end. The narration is ok. At first it was annoying but eventually I got used to it. I’ve heard way worse.

Sucks you in

Sad that there was only a minuscule reference to the previous book. However, this was another book full of surprises.

I really enjoyed this author’s first book in the series, and this one was even better! Great story telling and lots of nostalgia mixed with an ending that I did not see coming. Can’t wait for the next one!

Another great story that kept me guessing!

I just found Jl Hyde and so far every book is better than I can imagine! The narrator is so good, too! I could listen to her read the dictionary!

The book, author and narrator are all 10/10!

I found the narrator’s way of speaking very annoying and She sounded too young to be nearly 40 in the present part of the book. The romance was too silly. The ending was a surprise but contrived. Would someone really do something so foolish as to fake a confession on distinctive paper and then keep the rest of the paper for a year?

Not my cup of tea

I had a difficult time with the narrator which probably set me up to dislike the book. The story line was definitely for teens or young adults. I struggled to get through it but made it to the end.

Definitely not horror

I'm not sure why I enjoyed this book so much. It was more of a teen's book and the narrator had a rather childish sounding voice. One of the genre's listed for this book is "horror," and I certainly don't know where they came of with that. Perhaps "romance" would be a better fit - first love. Yet, somehow I was drawn in. The book even conjured up memories from my youth. This is way outside of the thrillers I usually read, but there was a purity and innocence to this book. I was taken aback by the ending!
