About this listen

After serving two years in a federal prison, Karen Hashimoto is out on parole and eager to put her criminal past behind her. No easy task, since she's also the former supervillain known as Crushette. A chance encounter leads to an unexpected opportunity, and she is recruited as the newest member of the city's premier team of superheroes: The Good Guys.

Now Karen has new teammates, a new code name, and the daunting responsibility of trying to be the hero everyone thinks she can be. Becoming a champion for truth and justice is going to be rough, especially for the ex-girlfriend of the notorious Doctor Maniac. Karen will have to do everything in her powers to keep her past from ruining her future. It was so much simpler being the bad guy.

Unusual look at the genre

I enjoyed this unusual take at the genre. How exactly does one become a hero or villain? Can you become a hero after being a villain? I was surprised by a few of the twist which I enjoyed. I am looking forward to the next installation.

A good book

Its a good book, a bit messed up for like 5 minutes at the start, but it quickly moves past it. If you enjoy the book as I did stop at book 1. Book two will be a lot like 1 till the end.. So just enjoy So not a hero and walk away, its for the best.

Love it

Great story for all fans of super heros, though not appropriate for young kids. A bit o. The darker side and with some sex, i love the main characters transition from villian to hero.

Very enjoyable

Similar to Kipjo Ewer's "The First" series.
I really enjoyed it, probably one of my 10 favorite books this year.

R-rated sci-fi erotica

Not safe for kids. They should really have maturity ratings on books to avoid soccer mom minivan embarrassment. I wasn't expecting Sci Fi erotica. It was quite explicit, in both language and in sexual content. It felt like a nerdy teenage boy wrote out his fan fiction fantasy (the overly-virtuous blandly-perfect strong handsome male characters who rescue the emotionally insecure slutty female is a dead giveaway that the author is likely male). The main hypersexualized female character keeps losing her clothing through most of the story and jumps at the chance to pleasure the first hyper-masculine nice guy she meets on their very first date.

I couldn't stand that they didn't delete out the narrator's swallowing sounds. It was very loud.

The story was derivative (Harley Quinn/The Boys/Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), but it was definitely entertaining and had compelling characters. It was addictive and just unpredictable enough (not very, but it had some very clever surprises) that I finished it and blew off responsibilities one afternoon to do so. So that's something. Solid 3/5, but too trashy and juvenile to be more. Solid character arc, though.

Graphic Suprrhero Sex

This book would have been perfect without all the 'extra' details. I had to skip the last half of chapter 13. It isn't that it didn't work in the story line, I just didn't expect it to because adult erotica. Other than that one chapter, the rest of the book, and characters were great.

Something to drink.

Any additional comments?

This was a really good and engaging story but the only problem I have is with the performer.

Please, audible, or whoever produces these things, get the narrator a glass of water and have them lean AWAY from the microphone when they drink. I am getting sick and tired of hearing these people swallow almost as much as you hear them speak.

Interesting read.<br />

I like the fact that the super heroes even though they are powerful they are still human. As faulty and flawed as most of us are.

An Entertaining Listen

Would you consider the audio edition of So Not a Hero to be better than the print version?

I never read the print version. The audio version is very good. The story is for adults, but it is still a good capes and costumes superhero story with interesting characters and a moving plot.

What did you like best about this story?

The journey and development of the main character. Watching her progress and discovering some of her secrets, which I will not reveal so you can experience it yourself.

What does Angela Brazil bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She was the main character. Her performance was wonderful.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"So Not a Hero" is already the perfect tag line.

Any additional comments?

I purchased this book on a whim. I was apprehensive, but after listening to the story and going on the journey with the main character I am glad I did.
