About this listen
Follow-up to the New York Times best seller Spy Secrets That Can Save Your Life - revealing high-stakes techniques and survival secrets from real intelligence officers in life-or-death situations around the world
Everyone loves a good spy story, but most of the ones we hear are fictional. That's because the most dangerous and important spycraft is done in secret, often without anyone even noticing.
In Survive Like a Spy, best-selling author and former CIA officer Jason Hanson takes the listener deep inside the world of espionage, revealing true stories and expert tactics from real agents engaged in life-threatening missions around the world.
With breathtaking accounts of spy missions in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Korea, Japan, and elsewhere, the book reveals how to:
- Achieve mental sharpness to be ready for anything
- Escape if taken hostage
- Defend yourself if detailed by foreign cops
- Set up a perfect safe site
- Assume a fake identity
- Master the "Weapons of Mass Influence" to recruit others to build rapport and make allies when you need them most

We have been spoon-fed the notion that creativity is the province of genius - of those favored, brilliant few whose moments of insight arrive in unpredictable flashes of divine inspiration. And if we are not geniuses, we might as well pack it in and give up. Either we have that gift, or we don’t. But Allen Gannett shows that simply isn’t true. Recent research has shown that there is a predictable science behind achieving commercial success in any creative endeavor, from writing a popular novel to starting up a successful company to creating an effective marketing campaign.

What is genius? The word evokes iconic figures like Einstein, Beethoven, Picasso, and Steve Jobs, whose cultural contributions have irreversibly shaped society. Yet Beethoven could not multiply. Picasso couldn’t pass a fourth grade math test. And Jobs left high school with a 2.65 GPA. The Hidden Habits of Genius explores the meaning of this contested term, and the unexpected motivations of those we have dubbed "genius" throughout history, from Charles Darwin and Marie Curie to Leonardo Da Vinci and Andy Warhol to Toni Morrison and Elon Musk.

Fight back, because we are sheep no more! This personal safety and security book comes armed to the teeth with empowering techniques so you can be your own expert at protecting your life. Weekly, there are major threats, mass killings, terrorist attacks and even weather-related disasters—the list goes on. And this increasingly dangerous world includes more violent and deadly threats that are specifically targeting everyday civilians. You. This is the definitive “safety bible” that links the leading expert on personal safety with civilians. For the first time, you can make educated predictions using the new key questions of “ Who, Why, Where, When, and How” from the attacker’s point of view. No one really expects violent situations to occur—but they do, and usually without advance warning or your control. End the guessing game of safety and security by following the techniques inside Sheep No More. Think like an attacker in order to build better defenses. Your life may depend on it.

Story
A landmark collaboration between a thirty-year veteran of the CIA and a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, The Main Enemy is the inside story of the CIA-KGB spy wars, told through the actions of the men who fought them. Based on hundreds of interviews with operatives from both sides, The Main Enemy puts us inside the heads of CIA officers as they dodge surveillance and walk into violent ambushes in Moscow. This is the story of the generation of spies who came of age in the shadow of the Cuban missile crisis and rose to run the CIA and KGB in the last days of the Cold War.

Long before the waterboarding controversy exploded in the media, one CIA agent had already gone public. In a groundbreaking 2007 interview with ABC News, John Kiriakou called waterboarding torture - but admitted that it probably worked. This book, at once a confessional, an adventure story, and a chronicle of Kiriakou's life in the CIA, stands as an important, eloquent piece of testimony from a committed American patriot.

Zazi and his coconspirators represented America's greatest fear: a terrorist cell operating inside America. Apuzzo and Goldman lift the veil of secrecy to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of our counterterrorism measures.

>In this illuminating and informative memoir, an Iraqi translator who risked his life working with American Sniper author Chris Kyle and the Navy SEALs tells his remarkable and inspiring story, offering a refreshing new perspective on the Iraq War. As the insurgency in Iraq intensified following the American invasion, U.S. Navy SEALs were called upon to root terrorists from their lairs. Unsure of the local neighborhoods and unable to speak the local languages, they came to rely on one man to guide them and watch their backs. He was a "terp" - an interpreter - with a job so dangerous they couldn't even use his real name.

Story
In 1978, CIA maverick Jack Platt and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko were new arrivals on the Washington, D.C., intelligence scene, with Jack working out of the CIA's counterintelligence office and Gennady out of the Soviet Embassy. Both men were assigned to seduce the other into betraying his country in the final days of the Cold War, but instead the men ended up becoming the best of friends. Theirs is a friendship that never should have happened, and their story is chock full of treachery, darkly comic misunderstandings, bureaucratic inanity, and landmark intelligence breakthroughs.

From Berlin to the Congo, from Moscow to the back streets of London, these are the stories of the agents on the front lines of British intelligence. And the truth is often more remarkable than fiction.
MI6 has been cloaked in secrecy and shrouded in myth since it was created a hundred years ago. Our understanding of what it is to be a spy has been largely defined by the fictional worlds of Ian Fleming and John le Carré. Gordon Corera provides a unique and unprecedented insight into this secret world and the reality that lies behind the fiction.

Insightful but wanted to hear more....
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It was recommended to me by a Vietnam Navy Seal friend. I already knew quite a few things since I'm fortunate to be around Men who often share safety tips with me. It was great to listen to the Missions and how he worked around obstacles as they arose. The computer info was useful and I already do about 50% of it but will put in to practice the other 50% for added security.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Survive Like a Spy?
Hard to say but enjoyed the Missions and each Story the best. The tips are great of course but following the details on the Missions were quite fascinating. This is the real deal and not a Hollywood Movie so it makes it more exciting. We owe a great deal to these Men and Women for putting themselves in harms way to keep us safe.
Have you listened to any of Jason Hanson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I have not. I was just referred to read his latest book but it's not on Audible yet. The other book seemed too similar so I bought just the one.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Think Like a Spy"
Any additional comments?
Jason has a great voice to be telling these stories, facts, etc. Easy to listen to and speaks precise. Looking forward to more stories....

An interesting book indeed!
I love to see books being narrated by the authors. Usually they have someone else read it.

Decent but not great
Too many spook stories, attempts to make the case stories sound “real” like when he lists time and month (but not year) , brief descriptions of subjects - attempting to appear to read from a case file
You can also identify in advance when he talks up some ultra cool spy tool - and then proceeds to advertise it available on his web site. All you have to do is give him some personal and credit card info - stuff he warns you about giving away in the book. Many items are “free”you just have to pay for shipping (Credit card details grabbed, monthly, expensive “newsletter” subscription added)
That said, author appears qualified on the subjects covered and has to make a living.
Book does come with some occasional useful info.

Get it
I really like both the way the author writes and the narrator. Legit useful skills in this book.

Very Helpful Information....
Although some of the information is well-known, the spy tactics aren't and should prove useful in the future.

Very impressed and learned allot
I thank Jason Hanson for this book and for the in-depth information, something’s I knew but allot I didn’t. If you listen have something to write with and a note pad. Before you start. Pass this along to your friends and family. Like he said, be safe, alert, and prepared but still have a good time. Trust your gut.

This book is great!!
I've already read (and re-read) Jasons first book "Spy secrets that can save your life" and loved it. Now this book is just as good. I'm thinking about giving this book as a gift for family and friends.
