About this listen

When Robin Matheson's husband is killed in Afghanistan, she feels completely alone in her grief. If there's even one small silver lining to Tav's death, it's the fact that she'll never again have to talk to his best friend - a 500-pound "forever alone" hacker. That's what she thinks, anyway, until her three-year-old decides Cyril is now his best buddy, and Robin can't bear to take anything else away from her son. Gradually, she begins to realize that Cyril is the one person who truly understands the magnitude of her loss. He also knows far more about her husband's death than he's been letting on....

I enjoyed the content of this book.

I thought the content of this book was good. But I did not like or appreciate the bad language used in it.

An emotional roller coaster!

This one was a bit of a slow start but it was well worth hanging in!! I laughed, I cried, I disliked and loved was filled with horror and joy. ...
In the beginning, it was the main character that I found a bit distasteful at the beginning of the story. ( she tended to be rather harsh and judgemental) though I truly understood the trauma she was dealing with and that grief may have colored her opinions. As the story advanced I was drawn by her change and growth, and the development of the relationships this growth allows.
I caution readers about jumping to conclusions throughout the story, there are a few unexpected twists and turns here that will keep you from hitting the pause button.
One last note. Leah Casey, the narrator absolutely 100% makes this experience! There were times when I was so immersed in this story that I lost track of the fact that it was an audiobook and not a dramatic performance.

very different, be good !

I prefer unusual romance stories. I really enjoyed Courting Greta, the first book by Ramsey Hootman. So, I was willing to try Surviving Cyril. It is a duology. . This first story is really the set up for what's to come in the 2nd book. The development of friendship and love over a years time through death, pregnancy, crisis, birth ,arrest and prison is enthralling and emotional. I started crying when Cyril was saying goodbye to Seth. I can't wait to listen to the next book !!
