About this listen

Wolf has watched his entire world go up in flames. Now, Regan must help him pick up the pieces if they hope to survive....

After the total disintegration of the island, Regan, Wolf, and the rest of the group decide to return to the one place they’ve called home — the swamp. However, returning isn’t as easy as it seems. The journey across Florida presents a whole new range of horrors as society breaks down, made all the worse when one of their own gets seriously injured. Plus, the team must face the trek with two new members whom some believe don’t belong with them at all.

With danger and supply shortages at every step, questions are raised whether or not they’re making the best choice in returning. And while Regan believes she’s learned her lesson — groups are the way to go — it’s terrifying to make the final leap and fight not just survive... but to live.

This novel contains violence and referenced sexual violence.

Surviving the hardships of an apocalypse

I really like this series because it's focus isn't on fighting and other action-driven drama. Rather, it's a character-driven story focusing on the actual act of surviving the hardships of an apocalypse. This final book in the series wraps it up nicely. And Connie Shabshab continues to deliver the outstanding performance she began in the previous books.

Back to the Swamp

The final book of the 'Survivalist Reality Show' series, 'Surviving the Elements' has Wolf, Regan and the group heading back to the swamp where the reality show was being filmed when the EMP struck. With the island refuge destroyed and the mainland city in civil disarray, this is their best option. Can they make it there to build new lives for themselves?

I listened to the first two installments of this series and wanted to check this one out as well. I requested a free review copy of 'Surviving the Elements' and this is my voluntary review.

Like the previous books, this one deals with group dynamics. The addition of Heather and her son Travis upsets the balance of the core group. One member is injured, forcing the rest to seek help from strangers. The group becomes even more at odds. Will they be able to rely on one another to safely reach their destination?

The characterizations remain consistent throughout. The reader learns a few survival tips. There's suspense and action. The plot's a little repetitive, but not completely similar to the other books. It has a satisfying ending. Overall, it provides a good listen.

Connie Shabshab has once again provided a good narration. I like the character voices in particular.

Recommended.

Good Ending

I totally enjoyed this series and great ending, this was my favorite of the 3 and sorry it ended. I recommend you read/listen to the series first 2 books to get full effect of the characters and their journey back to the swamp. Liked the characters of Wolf, Regan, Tabitha, Geno, Fred, RC, Lily, Travis and Heather and their fight for survival. 5+ star must read series!

I couldn’t stop listening! I love the characters in this series! They are all so personable-even the ones you meet who you do not like as much as others. I felt like I got to known them, and was drawn into the story. Time stood still because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I was so captivated that I could’ve finished it in one day, but I made myself wait and finished it the next morning. OMGosh what an incredible ending! You’ll feel the happiness, excitement, securities, insecurities, uncertainty, and grief with the characters in this roller coaster ride off a book. I have LOVED everything I’ve read by Grace Hamilton so you can’t go wrong with any of her books!

Awesome!!

I knew after the first few sentences the Surviving the Elements would be a fabulous addition to the series, and I wasn't wrong. I Loved it! The storyline is strong; it captured my attention and interest from start to end. With the Town's limited resources, the chance of people becoming desperate and dangerous was significantly higher. For this reason, Wolf wants to lead everyone back to the swamp, where they can live off the land. The group agrees to head to a Reservation, one neighboring the swamp, where generations of knowledge to live and survive without modern amenities are passed down. The track to the reservation is uncertain, unpredictable, paved with dangerous people, and kids with guns. The further they travel, the direr the situation becomes, forced to take risks they'd rather avoid.

The storyline flows smoothly, with a perfect balance of drama, discord, suspense, and action. As per the previous installments, Grace Hamilton's character development is phenomenal. I found the cast's interaction and dialog to be authentic and not forced. Connie Shabshab did a fantastic job with the narration and portraying the characters, further engaging the listeners. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, one I'll highly recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook, and my unbiased review is voluntarily given.

Baby bump!

Wolf and company are evicted from his island by his vengeful bi-polar ex-wife. Our survivors escape with their bug-out packs and the smell of smoke forever in their nostrils. Times are changing, gangs are leaving the cities looking for new territory to dominate. The last place our survivors want to see again is the swamp, but it may be the best place to settle unnoticed. Going back is no easier than getting out the first time. Once again, our steadfast troop must struggle through ambush, sickness, injury, and life-threatening events. At the end of the day, sitting among her friends eating some freshly broiled alligator Regan pondered, “They had all been through something tragic, and yet, they all came through stronger on the other side.” Four-point-five for a good story. Awesome!

Grace Hamilton never fails to deliver! Love everything she writes!
Wolf, Regan, Lily, Fred, Tabitha, Gino, RJ, and now we have Travis and Heather..... heading back to the swamp isn’t going to be easy.
Lily continues to be a preteen with all of the anger and angst but has moments where we see she may just get it together and stop hating Regan for no real reason. Regan continues to annoy me with her loaner attitude but she’s coming around. And beginning to see she needs people. Tabitha is an Angel as always.
Great narration by Shabshab.
