About this listen

TV series starring Ella Purnell coming out on Sky Atlantic in October!

The last person who called me ‘Sweetpea’ ended up dead…

’I haven’t killed anyone for three years and I thought that when it happened again I’d feel bad. Like an alcoholic taking a sip of whisky. But no. Nothing. I had a blissful night’s sleep. Didn’t wake up at all. And for once, no bad dream either. This morning I feel balanced. Almost sane, for once.’

Rhiannon is your average girl next door, settled with her boyfriend and little dog…but she’s got a killer secret.

Although her childhood was haunted by a famous crime, Rhinannon’s life is normal now that her celebrity has dwindled. By day her job as an editorial assistant is demeaning and unsatisfying. By evening she dutifully listens to her friend’s plans for marriage and babies whilst secretly making a list.

A kill list.

From the man on the Lidl checkout who always mishandles her apples, to the driver who cuts her off on her way to work, to the people who have got it coming, Rhiannon’s ready to get her revenge.

Because the girl everyone overlooks might be able to get away with murder…

I laughed out loud several times in the beginning. Her wit is hilarious. Then it got super twisted. Completely enjoyed this one.

Wow…. Twisted

Listening to this book, I loved it at first. But there was a turning point where it became so dark and so weird and so disturbing that it just crossed the line for me. I don’t wanna give away any spoilers. Of course I downloaded the next four books in the series Before it reached that turning point because I had already loved it so much. Now I’m not so sure if I want to listen to them. But I probably will. Loved the narrator so much. The writing was excellent, the dark sarcasm, that dry British humor… Loved all of that. The last quarter of the book though it sort of went downhill for me

There was a turning point where the killing became too much

I watched the show and loved it, so I decided to try the books. The books are like 10x more violent and messed up, so it was a bit of a surprise for me.

I love the author’s writing style. The internal dialogue is so good and straight up hilarious at times. Rhiannon is a straight up psychopath. Like Dexter but more evil.

I felt really drawn in by this book- especially in the beginning. The pacing is super good, and the narration is just perfect, they could not have picked somebody better.

Without spoiling anything, there’s a bit of a dip in the storytelling in the middle, with a few questionable choices in the direction- but besides that I found it interesting pretty much the whole time. Hoping the rest of the series keeps a good pace that’s similar with this book. What a good entry into the series.

Amazing narration. Very intense and gripping story. Great entry into the series.

Funny and sick all in one wonderful book.I’m listening to it again right now. Just the kind of book.

Loved it!

The narrator was excellent in bringing the character of Rhiannon to life as well as providing spot on regional British accents. The story can get very disturbing and sexual and left me in shock a few times. I wasn’t sure where the story was going until the end of the book which I found frustrating. Rhiannon is very narcissistic which I personally struggled with. I find it difficult to root for the unreliable protagonist.

Disturbing and Gruesome

Seeing all these negative reviews just shows me that people are way too quick to judge. Stop comparing Rhiannon to Dexter, that’s not what she is! It’s a book about a female serial killer, what do you mean it’s to dark and twisted? What do you mean the ending wasn’t satisfying? You do realize there is like 4

I finished my listen of "Sweetpea" by C.J. Skuse, narrated by Georgia Maguire, and I was immediately hooked. This scheming listen is a darkly comedic thrill ride that'll kept me listening into the late night/early morning. Rhiannon seems like an average girl-next-door, but she's got a killer secret – literally. Rhiannon's life is a facade. By day, she's an editorial assistant stuck in a mundane job. By night, she's a calculating and ruthless killer with a list of targets. Rhiannon's got a score to settle. Her life is a twisted game of cat and mouse, and I'm cheering her on. Georgia Maguire's narration is exquisitely spot-on, bringing Rhiannon’s quirky and deadly personality to life. Her performance is devious and wicked, making this audiobook an audictive offering. “Sweetpea” is the first in a five-book series, and I’m excited to continue listening. A TV series starring Ella Purnell is also coming to Sky Atlantic in October which, unfortunately, is not available in the U.S. (but also available on Starz). Highly recommended and worth a credit. “Sweetpea” is a must-listen. With its captivating blend of humor and suspense, this audiobook kept me thoroughly entertained and enthralled in Rhiannon’s twisted world.
