About this listen

The Destiny’s Crucible series chronicles the incredible adventure of Joseph Colsco, a college student of no particular importance who is thrust into an unimaginable fate by an accident that couldn’t happen - but did. Cast naked on the planet Anyar, he forges a new life for himself and rises to prominence and responsibilities he would otherwise never have imagined. However, much is left undone and uncertain.

For fans who finished the first four installments, many questions were left unanswered and many stories left untold. This collection of short stories and novellas addresses some of the questions, expands previous books, and points to future directions. The anthology begins not on the planet Anyar but on Earth, with the aftermath of the improbable accident that starts Joseph Colsco on his new life.

Don’t approach this book expecting any form of coherent structure or answers to any outstanding questions. Expect fragmented story lines to be brought up and then dropped with no explanation. Plan for retelling of scenes from different perspectives without adding new information.

Tremendous world building. An absorbing tale of possibility. Narrator was perfect for this story. Bravo

Wish there was more in this series!

Solid followup to the stories from books 1-4. I was mildly disappointed there were no short stories dealing with some of the past events on Anyar. It would have been interesting to hear a few short stories from the time prior to Joseph Colsco coming to the planet.
As it stands it was a wonderful treat to tease more of the world and a little taste of what happened to other passengers on that fateful flight to Chicago.
As always solid narration.

Takes to tease

With how good the last one was, I had high hopes for this. it also started good with going into different peoples stories, but then we go back and get different peoples points of view going over the major events from the last book. That makes it seem like a good amount of this book was stuff that got cut from the last one with how long it was. That is a bummer because of how short this one was.

rehash events.

This really gave answers to a lot of left hanging questions and made me really look forward to the next in the series.

It was more around character building. Not a big plot. I was hoping for more

Not as good as the first three books

I am really enjoying the entire series. The characters are well developed, the setting is amazing, and the plot is fascinating. The only thing I dislike about the series would be the constant repetition. I would like it if it were understood you needed to read the whole series to understand what was going on. I get tired of hearing everything repeated for the sake of those who are new (I suppose that’s the reason.) well a little repetition is understandable to keep everybody on the same page, saying things over and over and over is annoying. But, I’m still an avid listener and I am eagerly awaiting the next book!

Love the series

Book 5 of Destiny’s Crucible did not live up to the expectation that I had for the book (based on the previous 4). I found the spreading of the storyline to include new characters interesting, but in the end the book felt like it was a placeholder rather than a book that drew me into the storyline like the previous books in the series had. Hoping Mr Thorensen can re-establish the depth and foundation he had for the remainder of the series.

A bit disappointed

nice closure to a few of the questions, also giving a layout and hints of what is to come on the next book.
