About this listen
From the coauthor of the number-one New York Times best seller American Sniper comes a heart-pounding military thriller in which the fabled Special Ops unit is activated to stop a group of terrorists from launching "suitcase" nukes somewhere in America.
When Chechen terrorists manage to smuggle a Cold War-era Russian nuke across the Mexican-American border, the president is forced to reactivate the only unit capable of stopping them: Navy SEAL sniper Gil Shannon and his brash team of SEALs and Delta Force fighters. First introduced in Sniper Elite: One-Way Trip, hailed by Publishers Weekly as a "meaty thriller" with "snappy dialogue and well-timed humor", Shannon and his team were run out of the military after defying direct orders and instead choosing to save the life of one of their own. In Target America, Gil and his team, many of whom had gone rogue, are reunited as an off-the-books Special Ops unit that must race against the clock to save the country from nuclear destruction.
Number-one New York Times best-selling author Scott McEwen once again delivers a gripping and fast-paced adventure that illuminates the shadow world of clandestine military operations.

The President of the United States can’t decide how to respond to a classified video showing the Taliban’s brutal treatment of their captive - a female helicopter pilot of the Army’s elite Special Operations Aviation Regiment. But when the Special Ops community learns that one of their own is being tortured and will almost certainly be killed, no executive order will stop them from attempting a rescue mission.

Story
Vick "The Reaper" Harwood is an esteemed sniper with a record kill count - 33 kills in 90 days - when he is knocked out under mortar attack in Afghanistan. He wakes up back in the United States with little memory of what happened, his spotter and gun both unrecovered from the battlefield. Harwood has resigned himself to slowly picking up the pieces of his life. But when a series of assassinations start occurring in the area, Harwood can't explain why he just happens to be nearby for each killing - or how a sniper rifle that matches the description of the one he lost seems to be involved.

4 for so much cursing
If you could sum up Target America in three words, what would they be?
Hardcore
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes.
Which scene was your favorite?
The ranch scene from the time Gill's wife took off on the horse to the VIP treatment.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes but the cussing started making me angry. Had to put it down and do something else.
Any additional comments?
I hope there are enough men of action in our nations three letter organizations and all level of military wholove this nation and it's people like the men in this book.

Reminder that our Seals put themselves in danger
It was not as long as I thought it would be. It was slow to start but as it got going it was very good. The ending was a hold on to your hats son.
I have read the Sniper elite book 1 and it was much better than this one but it is turning out to be a good series.

Only real complaint is the gratuitous f bombs. I know it's probably pretty accurate for spec operators but it gets in the way and dilutes the story at least for me.

If you like Brad Thor, you'll love Scott McEwen
What made the experience of listening to Target America the most enjoyable?
The realism. To my knowledge, he has the equipment, tactics, and terminology of someone who knows what he's writing about.
What other book might you compare Target America to and why?
Anything by Brad Thor or Tom Clancy, because he's done his homework.
What about Brian Hutchison’s performance did you like?
His voice inflections and accents. Easier to follow characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
