love this story hate that its abridged!!!

I love most of Elizabeth Lowell s books. I HATE when old favorites are abridged. I missed many of my favorite scenes, likes and it just doesn't feel right.

My only complaint is that it is abridged!

I loved it! I own the printed book, and
I would buy a full length audio version if I could. The narrator particularly brings the Chinese characters to life for me, and I would listen to her again anytime.

My favorite Elizabeth Lowell book.

I love this story and the performance was awesome. My only complaint is that no matter how often and how long I have looked I can only find the Abridged version and I would dearly love to listen to and own an Unabridged version

Disappointed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is one of my all time favorite books by Elizabeth Lowell. I have read the hard copy over and over to the point the book is falling apart - I was so disappointed when I purchased this and realized, after I was half way through the book, that it was abridged! I kept thinking my memory of the storyline was faulty. I just don't understand the concept of abridging an audio book - what's the point? It's my own fault for not paying attention, but I'm still very disappointed.

Which scene was your favorite?

It wasn't in the abridged version

What would have made this romance irresistible?

The ENTIRE book

Disappointed

Was not happy to see this was an abridged version. Many parts of the story were missing from the original book. Very disappointed.

Love the book, not thrilled with the audiobook

I was not thrilled with the audio book. Part of it is my problem for not being attentive enough and realizing it was abridged.

Part of it was the narration. I felt the distinction between the voices - while attempted - was not pulled off well.

No unabridged?

I would've preferred an unabridged version. This one left to much out in my opinion.

Archaeology and James Bond Meet.

Would you consider the audio edition of Tell Me No Lies to be better than the print version?

I have not read the printed version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both the male and female protagonists. The ying and yang of their characters complimented each other perfectly.

Have you listened to any of Laural Merlington’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Even though this is a shorter 'read' than I usually endeavor, this book fascinated me with its description of how some archealogical artifacts could be dated and could be used as a political tool. The two main protagonists characters appear initially to be polars apart in their ethics and history, yet as the story progressed, the Eastern philosophical context of the ying and the yang being necessary to create and heal a whole fairly jumps out at the reader, without even having to think on it. The story line flows well, showing the intricasies of truth in dating artifacts as interwoven as the espionage of politcal jockeying. There is action aplenty and thought provocking twists and turns throughout.

The reader was consistant in her portrayal of characters as well as interesting in her inflections. Even the 'boring' portions of the archaeological explainations was made easier to attend. Overall, this was a 'can't wait to get in the car and listen' kind of book.
