About this listen

Chyanne Johnson has finally gotten her act together. She's found a man to call her own and is raising a son. After all of the drama that ensued behind finding out that Aric McHale, former boss, lover, and father to her son, was married, Chyanne finally has it made in the shade...or so she thinks. Stephanie, Aric's ex-wife, may have been found guilty of attempted murder, but she hasn't been sentenced yet and is still free to walk to streets.

Gabriel, Aric's best friend, is trying to deal with the fall out behind Stephanie's conviction. He has to deal with issues surrounding his mother and father's secret relationship as well as keep a secret from Aric that could ruin their friendship. Aric thought he didn't want to be with Chyanne until she saw how happy she was with Jamie. Now, he's rethinking his decision to leave her alone and when it comes to Chyanne, what Aric wants Aric gets. Jamie has some skeletons of his own that are about to fall out of the closet. With all of the lies that are about to be exposed Jamie and Chyanne's seemingly perfect relationship is about to come unraveled.

Interesting

The storyline was okay, but it was often too much. One incident in the book was totally disrespectful.

There were different readers and they were great. Crazy story, but what can you say... What's done in the dark.

What was it about this woman???

I thought this was a good story, however I couldn't understand why all these men were so head over heels in love with Cheyenne.

An Updated Soap Opera ~ But Very Entertaining

My favorites to read are usually Mysteries and Legal Thrillers. I chose this novel based on the reviews and I needed a break from my usual. This novel really held my attention straight through because there was drama (daddy-mama drama and who's sleeping with who) galore! I felt well entertained even though I kept saying aloud "don't do it! are you crazy!" so you kinda knew from early on that things are not going to workout well for the central protagonist. I will criticize the author here because I don't think the central protagonist was developed well enough so that we could really care about her or to root for her. She kept repeating the same mistake and continued to have the excuse of "I made a mistake; it was just a mistake." I can accept making the same mistake over and over when the circumstances are different and you just couldn't see it coming. But to repeatedly make the same mistake in the same way with the same circumstances makes me think that you are just plain stupid.

But again, the story held my attention and I had a few good laughs as well. Pretty much every character - the major and the minor players - had plenty of drama that elevated this story to a good entertaining read. Not to say too much, but the novel had a bit of everything from murder, pedophilia and the resulting mental health issues, to plain ole infidelity. The best scene that I liked was between Gabe and his father. Like I said, there is a lot of drama here, even a reading of a Will with an unexpected outcome!

The narrators were good but it took a minute to adjust my ear to one of the male narrators. His voice had a choppy and overly aggressive tone, but I overcame my bias and quickly started to enjoy his voice.

Have mercy, this story was something else...

The story line was off the chain and entertained me thoroughly. However, I couldn’t help but feel some type of way about how the male and female characters were portrayed—males dominate, abusive, doing and getting away with whatever they want, and females dumb as sticks and being treated lower than low. But, I must say the main female character got what she deserved in the end, made her bed now she must lay in it.. period.
