About this listen

The unsolved murder of a young activist leads to the discovery of much darker crimes in New York Times best-selling author Allison Brennan’s latest compelling thriller to feature the young, edgy detective Kara Quinn and the loner FBI agent Matt Costa. This time they work to uncover possible ties to a high-stakes cartel in the Southwest desert.

Something mysterious is killing the wildlife in the mountains just south of Tucson. When a college intern turned activist sets out to collect her own evidence, she, too, ends up dead. Local law enforcement is slow to get involved. That’s when the mobile FBI unit goes undercover to infiltrate the town and its copper refinery in search of possible leads.

Quinn and Costa find themselves scouring the desolate landscape, which keeps revealing clues to something much darker - greed, child trafficking and more death. As the body count adds up, it’s clear they have stumbled onto much more than they bargained for. Now they must figure out who is at the heart of this mayhem and stop them before more innocent lives are lost.

Loved the story. The narrator was a little stiff and enunciated a little too hard most of the time and it distracted from the story. Otherwise liked it a lot.

Good story. Performance could be better.

Good story line, but told awkwardly at times. Narrator didn't improve it. Not bad, and I did enjoy the book. But not great.

ok

There are a lot of characters and the narrator doesn't vary the voices enough to distinguish between characters. It's hard to follow. Didn't finish.

Overall I thought the story line it’s self was pretty good . It was the book’s description that initially caught my attention , I thought it was unique and sounded interesting. One of my issues with the book was the unrealistic dialogue and actions of the characters. I felt like things were over explained. This was done to give context for readers that might not be familiar with certain aspects the book was trying to depict but it added to the unrealisticness. I thought the characters were lacking . Parts of the story lacked creativeness , and some aspects were predictable and unexciting. The narration was mediocre. All in all I didn’t hate it, the ending was more exciting than other parts . This book would not make my top list of favorites but it want horrible.

Decent story , execution lacked

1st book was good but the narrator was less than desirable- well she must have read the undesirable reviews and amped it us with this book! The story content was great, the research seemed accurate and the characters believable! Well done Allison Brennan! Next book waiting for late April release!
