About this listen

When the woman of his dreams walks through his door, it seems too good to be true....

World famous metal artist Gabe Walker is elated when the woman he's loved since high school strolls into his workshop to ask him out on a date. But there's a catch - it's with another woman. Gabe has no trouble saying no to that date, but with Chantel? The answer's always hell yes.

With two failed relationships behind her, Chantel Chandler wants to keep things light. She's recently back in Whiskey River, Texas, and is determined to pick up the pieces of her life. But her casual friendship with Gabe quickly combusts into an intensely hot affair with an unexpected surprise...a pregnancy.

Chantel would love to be a mom, but she needs to be loved for herself first. Gabe says he's all in, but how can she trust again when she's been let down so many times?

Contains mature themes.

This style of writing is not my favorite. The story was cute. The spice was a one chili pepper maybe two.

He loved her since he was 16 and still couldn’t admit it when she finally wasn’t his best friend’s girlfriend! They were going off to college. The story is cute and I liked how he sucks her in!

Characters were relatable. Story kept my interest. Trigger Warnings for some. Biggest draw was Brandon Utah's narration. I was wary at first when I saw their was only a male narrator. It was jarring to hear the female characr thoughts in his deep voice. However, it was quickly forgotten when you realized his talent. He used different voices for more than eight people, including accents. He had voices for each family member and friend. He switched between them seamlessly. In some chapters, he differentiated between character voice, character thought, and general narration. Excellent narration-probably the best I've listened to.

Brandon Utah at his best!

This was an easy no stress listen. I liked Gabe and Chantel. They had good, positive chemistry. Gabe's patience and kindness was admirable. I wasn't feeling Marla because I felt like she wasn't being honest regarding her actions. I was glad she wasn't able to interfere in Gabe and Chantel's relationship.

I was disappointed and felt for her when Chantel had to go through a similar experience again. I could understand her being hesitant about moving forward with Gabe. I appreciated that Chantel was able and willing to listen to someone she trusted when she realized she made a mistake regarding her relationship with Gabe.

The ending did feel abrupt to me. I would have appreciated an epilogue possibly showing Gabe and Chantel's relationship further down the road.
