About this listen

As owner of the Crewel World needlework shop and part-time sleuth, Betsy Devonshire has become skilled at weaving suspicious threads together. Just back from a trip to Thailand, Doris Valentine is eager to show her stitching friends her souvenirs, which include dazzling Thai silk. She also has a small stone Buddha that she agreed to deliver to an antique store in St. Paul. It's wrapped in a dirty rag, which she throws away. When she meets the dealer, he is surprised that she unwrapped it, though relieved the statue's delicate hands aren't damaged.

The next night, Doris' apartment is broken into, then the antique shop owner is found murdered, his shop ransacked, and the Buddha gone. And Betsy starts to wonder about the dingy wrapper she retrieved from the trash.

FUN STORY

Any additional comments?

A NICE COZY READ DURING THE LONG WINTER MONTHS, NOT TO MENTION JUST PLAIN FUN.

Getting harder to listen to.

Once again, this narrator lends little to no life to the book. Other reviews say the same thing. If I wasn't so invested in the series, I would completely give up. I'm so glad this wasn't the first narrator, or I would have missed out on this wonderful series & gotten to know the charming characters.

Fan

This was a very interesting book and n knowledgeable on the antiques of the knitting world. The guilty one was not who I had that it would be.
Still wish you would go back to the original narrator.

This book is why I love this series

I didn’t enjoy the last book, I was thinking I would give up the series. But here Monica Ferris comes with one of my favorites. I love learning something in a book, I love an engaging story. This book did both of those! Betsy back in full form, interesting side characters with quick development and a fascinating story. Guess I keep reading for now!

You'll get hooked on this series

I've read many of Monica Ferris' mysteries in paperback so I was happy to see there were a few I hadn't read on audible.com. If you like this kind of small town/close community whodunit, you'll love Ms. Ferris' characters, plot action, and clear, move-right-along writing style. I even took up crocheting because of this series of books - it inspired me to try needlework!

Leave the South out of It!

Where does Thai Die rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I don't like the narrator. Just use the original narrator from now on!

How could the performance have been better?

Use the original narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when the author made a sly reference to Southerners regarding racism during the water aerobics pool scene with the guy from Kentucky. Leave this garbage out of your books from now on please! As a Southerner I do not appreciate this!

Give US SUSAN BOYCE!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would NOT recommend this book ONLY because of the narrator! Where the heck is Susan Boyce! This reader just skims through the text and voices - with very little variation between any of the characters; AND the worse part is, Godwin who should 'get' to show off his personality via his voice - gets no special attention - therefore he sounds no different than the group of women. OMGosh - I enjoy this series; I have most all of them in my library - but this gal has got to go! She should give her wages back!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Interesting premise and the author approached the 'usual' murder in the community from a new angle - which was great! But geez - it gets lost in the narration.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Completely. Connie Crawford should go in to another line of work! Narrating a book is not a race; "she who reads it fastest, giving no intonation or character to the voices wins!' I don't think so!

Any additional comments?

It should be re-recorded by Susan Boyce and re-released! I hope Monica Ferris has some control over who is the reader for her books. I will look more closely at the narrator for her books from now on before I click 'purchase'!
