Publisher's summary

Every day brings us a crushing wave of demands: a barrage of texts, emails, interruptions, meetings, phone calls, tweets, blogs - not to mention the high pressure challenges of our jobs - that can be overwhelming and exhausting. The sheer number of distractions can threaten our ability to think clearly, make good decisions, and accomplish what matters most, leaving us worn out and unfulfilled.

Now FranklinCovey offers powerful insights drawn from the latest neuroscience and decades of experience and research in the time-management field to help you master your attention and energy management through five fundamental choices that will increase your ability to achieve what matters most to you. The 5 Choices is time management redefined for the 21st century: it increases the productivity of individuals, teams, and organizations and empowers you to make more selective, high-impact choices about where to invest your valuable time, attention, and energy.

The 5 Choices are:

  • 1. Act on the Important, Don't React to the Urgent
  • 2. Go for Extraordinary, Don't Settle for Ordinary
  • 3. Schedule the Big Rocks, Don't Sort Gravel
  • 4. Rule Your Technology, Don't Let It Rule You
  • 5. Fuel Your Fire, Don't Burn Out

A Sub-par Franklin Covey Product

To my mind: this book is a sub-par Franklin Covey product, it has nothing on “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and “Speed of Trust”, the material seemed cold and sterile, as it had too much dependency on neurological facts and the underlying assumptions then alluded too much to the dark-side of human behavior, a pessimistic view on human-nature using ideas and phrases such as “dopamine hits” that impugn the motives of human-nature in a cynical light which causes an unneeded pessimistic confusion of humans as ultimately selfish beings.

Lastly the voice recordings of the authors are awful:

I felt like was being scolded, harped, and harangued by the television series “Carmen Sanediego’s” The Chief” (by actress Lynne Thigpen) through most of this audible book, this tonality was so jarring, distracting and disturbing, that it made me want to turn the audible app off and/or hurry through the book.

Sound Platform

I like strategy of the 5 choices. I thought I wont learn anything new. I am happy I picked this book. Downside the narrators are horrendous let the experts do that next time please. Another thing is that this is more of a personal platform, the book is trying to link it to enterprise but I nah it wont fit that much.

This has helped me make HUGE changes. 👌🔥

Eye opening in many ways. leadership, time management and the importance of self care. Being "so busy" is really just bad time management. Excellent stuff.

What files?

This audio version refers to files that are not available. I could benefit from the visuals they are referencing. The voice of the female narrator sounds like she would be excellent if this was a live in person presentation. It jus comes off shrill in this format. But I liked the content. Very insightful and easy to implement.

Content is good, Narration is bad

The content of the book is very useful however the female narration for the audiobook is not good. You feel like you are being shouted at and it is very grating on the nerves. So instead of feeling motivated after listening, you just feel irritated.

Please re-record this with professional readers

I can't listen to these readers. The poor readings distract me from the material being presented. I would SO appreciate a recording with professionals.
