This book is great for anyone who wants to learn more about the addict in yourself or in your life. I liked it because shes been through the process in real life. Most people I encounter say they're an expert in addiction but have never been through the struggle. Not to sound rude in any way but she dumbed it down so the regular everyday person can understand lol

Dr. Nicole Labor is a badass! Her explanations explain my addiction so eloquently. Now that I understand the science behind it, I’m able to dive into the practical & personal applications of my recovery. This whole book was so eye opening. And now I can also explain to a familiar member why her daughter OD’d. And help her to understand that it was never her fault.

This book powerfully dismantles stereotypes and stigma surrounding substance use, weaving together real stories with clinical insight in a way that’s both emotionally resonant and intellectually rich. It balances raw honesty with compassion, helping readers truly understand the complexity of addiction—not just as a medical condition, but as a deeply personal, societal, and spiritual struggle. I had the pleasure of meeting the author, and her authenticity and passion shine through every page. Highly recommended for anyone in healthcare, recovery, or simply looking to expand their empathy.
