About this listen

A Washington, DC, lawyer and a frequent major media commentator on the Supreme Court, Anthony Franze delivers a high-stakes story of family, power, loss, and revenge set within the insular world of the highest court of our country.

Among Washington, DC, power players, everyone has secrets they desperately want to keep hidden, including Sean Serrat, a Supreme Court lawyer.

Sean transformed his misspent youth into a model adulthood and now has one of the most respected legal careers in the country. But just as he learns he's on the short list to be nominated to the US Supreme Court, his daughter, Abby, a talented and dedicated law student, goes missing. Abby's lifeless body is soon found in the library of the Supreme Court, and her boyfriend, Malik Montgomery, a law clerk at the high court, is immediately arrested.

The ensuing media frenzy leads to allegations that Malik's arrest was racially motivated, sparking a national controversy. While the Serrat family works through their grief, Sean begins to suspect the authorities arrested the wrong person. Delving into the mysteries of his daughter's last days, Sean stumbles over secrets within his own family as well as the lies of some of the most powerful people in the country. People who will stop at nothing to ensure that Sean never exposes the truth.

Great Legal Thriller

Excellent production. Kept me wanting to hear more. The ending was a surprise and came out of nowhere. The story was a little weak hence the 4 star rating, but I would recommend to all those that like this genre.

Boring

It started off with potential, but it's just an old cliché.

I don't have time to write more

if you read this you will need to suspend reality

this is a decent book for sure , but oh boy , you really need to accept the entire premise of the crazy stuff that the author wants you to believe. who is difficult to believe that anything like this could even remotely happen when dealing with the Supreme Court of the United States. still probably worth a credit , but would be a better deal if you were able to get it on sale.

I was skeptical

I had never read a book by Anthony Franze and I always hesitate to read a political book because I'm so sick and tired of my party being the evil one. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Mr. Franze for the most part kept politics out of his political thriller. It takes talent to write a political novel that doesn't tick off half of the country.

Reminds me of Scott Turow.

Ending is a bit gee-whiz, but a good solid story with characters you care about and denouement you don’t see coming.

Listened in one day

Is there anything you would change about this book?

A novel that has all fictional names for the president and the supreme court (including the Chief Justice), should not make direct references to Barack Obama and Chief Justice Roberts. It happened twice and was like finding a worm in an otherwise delicious soup.

Was The Advocate's Daughter worth the listening time?

I enjoyed the story.

A Legal thriller with some bite...

The lead character has some flaws and a big secret. This book had me from the very beginning. If you are a legal thriller junkie - this is one for you!!

Really? Really!!!

What a brilliant book! It’d make a wonderful movie with all the action and suspense. I don’t remember a book with that many conflicts-all woven together with a surprise ending. Be sure to read to the very end!
