Publisher's summary

Attorney Sabre O. Brown takes on three disconcerting new cases, each with its own illusion: a woman claiming she's been impregnated by a ghost, a threatening parent prone to violence, and a child bride with a heartbreaking First Amendment issue.

At the same time, Sabre tries to protect her mother, who is dating a suspicious widower she met online. In Sabre's search for justice, she is found near death after a magician's illusion deviously goes wrong.

Another great addition to the series

I’ve enjoyed all of the books in The Advocate Series. The Advocates Illusion is the 9th book in the series. I really like how the characters have developed. This book, like the others in the series, does a great job of keeping you guessing until the end. I’d put this on my must read list! As an audiobook, the narrator wasn’t my favorite. That’s the only reason for the 4 stars.

Captivating with multiple storylines

I have read several books in this series and every book delivers a well written story. This book features JP's point of view and his attempts to uncover whether the man Sabre's mom is a killer, evidence to help rescue a child from her marriage to an older man and more. The narration was excellent...I loved the variety of voices...made the characters come alive.

One of the Best in the Series

This series is really amazing. Every book is a different adventure and is so amazing. The characters are so well known to me I am excited to see what happens to them next.

An interesting book about a child advocate lawyer and her clients

The Advocate’s Illusion is an interesting book about a child advocate lawyer and her young clients. There are several different plot lines in this book including a child marriage, an angry “non offender” dad, a predator drugging women in bars, and a long missing woman.

The narrator is growing on me. His female voices can use work, and many of his characters sound like they have a smoking problem, but he does a good job bringing the stories to life.

I received a complementary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

As expected-excellent solid addition to series...

This is such a great addition to the Advocate series. The publisher's summary gives a very good overview without giving away too much of the plot. All of the characters are well developed and believable as well as the storyline.
The one vein that held my attention was that of a 12 year old girl forced by the church into a marriage to a much older man. Someone in the church calls child protective services after the wedding is announced. The child runs away and cannot be found. Sabre tries to make a case before a judge regarding child abuse/endangerment vs a voluntary church sanctioned marriage but without the girl it's almost hopeless. So glad too see this topic being written about even in a fictional setting.
The other cases are all interesting as well. Things really heat up for JP Torn, Sabre's boyfriend when someone from one of her other cases tries to kill him/her.
John Bell does an excellent job narrating. Easily distinguishable character voices.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Very busy plot!

Attorney and author Teresa Burrell was a child legal advocate in San Diego herself. Her fictional protagonist Sabre Brown in this continuing nine novel legal thriller series has exactly the same job. I have liked enjoyed is the wrong word due to the tragic subject matter) and reviewed every series novel. There is a lot going on in The Advocate's Illusion, but the central case is about a 12 year old girl being forced to be married to a middle age man by a religious cult.

Sabre's is now in love with her southern accented investigator JP who by the way often verbally expresses himself using creative and corny similes. There is also a plot to kill Sabre and JP. Sabre's widowed mother has found a love interest using an Internet website causing Sabre and her brother to be very concerned. I like courtroom scenes and this novel has several.

Teresa Burrell's novels are about court cases concerning abused children. They are difficult to listen to due to the heartbreaking subject matter, but they are very worthwhile. Burrell is a self published author who did a lousy job of selecting narrators for the first five novels in The Advocate series. She is not sticking with John Bell who does a stellar job.
