For Sabre Orin Brown, life is good; she has it all...or would have, if only she could solve the mysterious disappearance of her brother. The search for her brother and her career as a juvenile-court attorney collide when she defends a nine-year-old whose father will go to any length to obtain custody.
Sabre finds herself immersed in a case with too many unanswered questions. Her quest for the truth takes her coast to coast and five years into the past. Confronted with mysterious clues and strange occurrences, Sabre is threatened by someone wanting to make her suffer the unbearable anguish of losing everything - including her life.
As Sabre's passion to find the answers intensifies, she discovers a twisted history of desperation, deceit, and revenge. And she discovers how obscure and treacherous the truth can be.
The Advocate, a legal-suspense murder mystery, is the first book in The Advocate Series. Three characters continue throughout the series, Sabre Orin Brown, defense attorney; her investigator, J.P. Torn; and her colleague Bob Clark. The Advocate is followed by The Advocate's Betrayal
, The Advocate's Conviction, The Advocate's Dilemma, and The Advocate's Ex Parte.©2009 Teresa Burrell (P)2013 Teresa BurrellListeners also enjoyed...

Story good, reader not so much

Would you listen to The Advocate again? Why?
I would listen again if I ran out of something new to read. What did you like best about this story?
Foster children are close to my heart, having been a foster mom myself. I simply love mysteries and action, so this book fulfilled all my desires in a good book. What about Summer Rona’s performance did you like?
I liked the inflections in her voice, but especially liked that she didn't try to change her voice drastically for each character. That can get pretty ridiculous. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Murder, mayhem, and the children.Lotta Power in a Little Lady

Good story. Bed narrator

narrator. Not one of the better ones. The protagonist is an idiot. I guess she didn't know she was the "hero"
and that coincidences are law enforcement no-no's. I learned from my work to be wary of coincidence.
It is an ok story, I guess but not one I will pursue (other books by the same author)
Ok

The narrator has a lot of potential. Many have mentioned the extra breaths. I think part of it may have been intentional for a particular character or situation (exasperation or fear) but at other times, it was very distracting and not complimentary to the story. I hope she continues to work on her techniques. I would definitely listen to her again.
A little rough around the edges
