Publisher's summary

With Reacher, number-one New York Times best-selling author Lee Child has created “a series that stands in the front rank of modern thrillers” (The Washington Post).

Everything starts somewhere....

For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A coverup.

A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.

Reacher is ordered undercover - to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control.

Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice - and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust one another, Reacher and Deveraux reluctantly join forces. Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission, and turn him into a man to be feared.

A novel of unrelenting suspense that could only come from the pen of number-one New York Times bestselling author Lee Child, The Affair is the start of the Reacher saga, a thriller that takes Reacher - and his readers - right to the edge... and beyond.

Take another thrill ride with Jack Reacher.

Reacher does it again

The story moved right along - the usual twists and plot turns - and in a big surprise ending Reacher almost finds love

Good "who done it?" for new and old Reacher fans

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

There were a few plot twists and surprises. Also, a few times where I laughed out loud or shot up my hand in triumph. Lee Child does a good job with dialog and creating supporting characters that that are interesting. (though they always seem to be hot women :O) )

Would you listen to another book narrated by Dick Hill?

Maybe. The voice actor's voice sounded good when speaking as Reacher but I did find it annoying for the love interest (young southern woman).

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were a couple incidents where I was surprised at some of the decisions made by the main character. Reacher can be a bit dark...

Any additional comments?

This is my 2nd Reacher book and 1st audio book. This is a prequel to the first book, The Killing Floor. If you have not read any of the Reacher books then this is a great first read. I am definitely interested in reading the other Reacher books.

Where is the extra book about Reacher as a teen?

The explanation of the book said there would be an additional part about Jack reacher when he was young and I can't seem to find it.

Great story. Quick read.

I enjoyed the story and the spectacularly beautiful women nicely described, both living and dead, by the author.

Love the characters

Per usual Reacher accomplishes his goal and keeps the story alive. The mystery keeps unfolding until the very end.

The Jack reacher origin story

this is a wonderful tail. It covers how the jack reacher I have come to know and love became that very character. We child had another great book when he wrote this one. It answers so many questions and is riveting from beginning to end. I recommend it to anyone who likes Jack reacher.

Jack does it again.

A very good reacher read. He gets the girl, he get justice, and what he deserves in the end. Reacher jus seems to fit in that small town with a military base. Very interesting at the end - love? Duty? Good suspense and well portrayed audio.

I really enjoyed this book for the most part. I'm not sure how much i liked the ending , but most book endings are that way...either you love them or you hate them. Anyway, on to the next one.!!

Finally- we know….

Great book to fill in the narrative on why Reacher leaves the army. Shorter than the others but a good story all the same.
