About this listen

Some things are better left buried....

Kim's curiosity reaches a fever pitch. Reaching out to the people who knew the Reeds, she ends up with conflicting accounts of their lives and habits. Nothing is making sense, and with every passing day, she becomes less sure of what she knows.

An unmarked grave just outside the woods. A series of revelatory dreams. A large, mysterious light fixture hiding in among the trees.

When Kim switches on the amber light, she discovers the truth behind the disappearance of Marshall and Dakota Reed. Indeed, she learns far too much.

The Amber Light is the third novella in the Black Acres serial by Ambrose Ibsen. It contains adult language, scenes of horror, and a cliff-hanger ending. Listener discretion is heavily advised.

Brutal

Kim and Julian decide to take a breather from the house and set on a walk to enjoy the surroundings. Everything seems fine until they discover what seems to be an unmarked grave and they get lost in the woods.

Little by little, Kim discovers new things about the house and its previous inhabitants, makes assumptions, and takes great risks. In this book, she is much more alone than in previous books. With the help of Dakota’s diary and some revelatory dreams, she will learn more than she wishes to know, while Julian puts all his efforts in renovating the house, and ignores her fears.

This book is brutal, there are some new developments and findings that kept me on the edge of my seat. I found the book to be the scariest of the series until now. The disorientation Kim feels at times is contagious, and I found myself trapped in the story and the events. I definitely want to know what happens in the next book!

The best part of this book though is the narration. Joe Hempel’s narration is powerful in this one, making the listener vibrate and be there, in the house, with Kim and Julian, in danger and in suspense. Hempel’s narration has trapped me in this audiobook, and did not let go.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Kim & Julian's tale continues...what a ride!

The Amber Light, book 3 of the Black Acres series written by Ambrose Ibsen is another great entry in this four book series. Kim and Julian's journey isn't done yet and the old house and what lies in it still have more to torment them with...Kim continues trying to find more information on the Reeds, especially Dakota. Julian still isn't buying what Kim is selling in terms of anything suspicious in the house or in the woods outside their house. By the end of this cliffhanger entry in the series, you'll be going crazy wanting to listen to the last book to see what happens! Ambrose Ibsen always done a great job weaving fun, original horror/supernatural tales and this series is no exception!

Joe Hempel again does a great job narrating this series. He always delivers a solid performance and I always know that I'll be able to easily get into an audiobook when he has narrated it. I'll continue to listen to Joe's narrations without hesitation at any opportunity. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Kim, You Don't Have to Put on The Amber Light

Not sure why but I thought that this was a three part series, glad that it wasn’t because as it was getting towards the end I was feeling cheated out of a real ending. Now I can’t wait for the next chapter, really want some closure on this story. As with the other chapters you need to listen to them in order or you will be lost. Not sure how many are to come, but all I can say is bring them on.

The chaos and haunting ramps up as Kim delves deeper into the original home owners and continues to search for answers. As she seems to be at her wits end she starts doing some surprising things that was quite unexpected. Since her husband is a nonbeliever I expected him to cause the escalation through some sort of demonic infestation, I was pleasantly surprised. Now I’m really unsure of where this is heading and as there is nowhere to go but downhill I’m waiting to roll down and eventually hit something.

This chapter was all haunting action and is leading us to the climax. This was one of my favorites so far, although being strung along with each new one is becoming difficult. The plot is really taking off and I am just as curious as Kim as to where this will all lead. Twists and turns at each step. I really think that this should be just one book and waiting between each new one is like waiting for the season of your show to restart. Becomes concerning that you will need to remember what happened in between binging on other things.

As always, Joe does a fantastic job. The tension and anxiety you feel listening to this would not be achieved without him. His voice and emotion seemed to pick up a bit in this chapter and really made for a great suspenseful and frightening chapter. Can’t wait for the next one.

Another Excellent Installment!

This is another installment which pulls you further in and doesn't let go. I listened to this book right after the second one. Just like the other two, this book ends on a major cliffhanger! UGH! I enjoyed listening to this third part and found myself annoyed (at Julian, of course), on the edge of my seat, and the end (cliffy) made me cry! I really hope the next (and final) installment comes soon. The narration was excellently done. Joe Hempel kept the voices the same through all three books and really helped to pull the listener in for a suspenseful listen. I can't say this enough, if you enjoy suspenseful listens then you have to check this series out! However, if you don't like books leaving you hanging then wait until the final installment comes out before you buy!

The Amber Light

Book 3 in the series and Kim is still trying to find information on Dakota and her husband, the previous owners that dissapeared. She may not like what she finds. Joe Hempel, once again, does a fine job narrating this series. I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Amber Light 3

This was a awesome and exciting installment to the series and one made very much better by Narrator Joe Hempel if you are doing the audio version. Either format is so much fun with this series it reminds me of the old time penny dreadful where the suck you in and you have to wait for the next installment to see what happens to the main characters. These characters are great and work together to bring the story out, while the story itself has all the twists and turns and actions that will suck you in and not let you go just like the Amber light that is shining to bring you in.

Better story than book 2

In comparison inflation the previous two books, this third one of the series was definitely scarier than the previous. It was still lacking a bit of that Ambrose Ibsen that I’ve come to expect with his other books/series. In book 3, more of the story is brought to light with still some major questions hanging around. I was really “happy” with the ending and am looking forward to the next installment.

Joe Hempel is my favorite horror story narrator. I really appreciate his clear voice that carries. His enunciations are spot on and I never wonder what he’s saying. There isn’t any voice playing here... we get the strait Hempel talk but it really isn’t necessary in these books. I’m always excited to listen to Joe Hempel’s narrations... I just know I’m always going to enjoy his voice!
