Once it takes hold, it never lets go...
Like an illness, fear spreads. Healthy minds are withered by paranoia. Can anything stop the contagion?
A peculiar tablet unearthed in a Middle Eastern ossuary provokes madness in those who encounter it. One by one, people come under the tablet's sway and are subjected to horrific visions and dreams. In time, the tablet's true purpose becomes clear: It is the harbinger of an eons-dead god whose reemergence will steep the world in terror and suffering. Having put the pieces together, two men race against the clock and attempt to disrupt the terrifying work of an ancient cult.
Wretchedness is a full-length novel of supernatural terror by Ambrose Ibsen.

I cannot say enough good things about the work of Ambrose Ibsen. His stuff is just right up my ally - sophisticated and satisfying paranormal stories and "Wretchedness" was by far the best one yet! This story had several interweaving plot lines that made for a complex and interesting listen. Not only that, but the paranormal concept was one I hadn't come across before (which is pretty impressive seeing as almost every instance of "ghosts" has become a total cliche). I won't say anymore for fear of spoilers. I will say, though, that if you are even vaguely interested in paranormal stories, you should really give "Wretchedness" a shot - it's absolutely fantastic. Jake Urry is phenomenal, as always!I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I think I can still recommend this book to my friends, but they might stop trusting my recommendation afterwards, This book wasn't all bad and had some chilling pages. The ending was good too. But the journey to the end was dragged. There's just too much detail about the setup and what's going through the characters mind. So much so that the "fear" goes away from listener's mind. One moment you are afraid of what's going to happen next, and then the excruciating details starts and you get bored and the mood is ruined. That happened several times throughout the book. Listeners who can deal with that, this book is fine for them.Any additional comments?
I received this book for free from the author / narrator / publisher, in exchange for an unbiased review.Too much detail ruins the mood.

Regarding this offering, I have to also admit I am not always a fan of gruesome, gory horror books, and this offering fully fits that bill. That said, long time Ibsen performer Jake Urry does a masterful job of bringing these troubled characters life, consistently and with energy. (There are some nagging mispronunciation, which bug me but are nit-picking as well.)
I find Ibsens's stories are less morality plays ( like most horror seems to be these days ) and more platforms to showcase pure scary and gory horror. If that is what you are looking for, look no further. It is on full view here. Therefore, I recommend this offering to folks who enjoy that genre, but it is not for the casual horror listener. Enjoy!
A gory, horrific piece of entertainment

Another scary, edge of your seat thriller that's full of suspense for the listener. This book held me in its grip to the very end. Please keep the " Wretchedness" away from me.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Jake Urry voices this genre excellently!

I enjoy and this was one of the better ones. The only fault is that the book ended abruptly. It’s as if the writer got tired and wanted to quit. In my opinion, if he spent less time on all the descriptive elements, and more on a fleshed out the ending it would have been five stars.
