Publisher's summary

When destiny calls, you can run or stand and fight for what you’ve always wanted. Either way, you’ll have no choice but to change.

Mrs. Ava Southerly, apothecary assistant and widow, lives in fear. She’s become an expert at hiding to keep second-sight visions at bay. In the year 1885, such things as witches surely don’t exist anymore, regardless of her ancestry. If she doesn’t emotionally engage her heart, those otherworldly powers will stay dormant and the people she cares for won’t be hurt, but she longs for acceptance and romance.

Douglas Wallace, an American doctor and descendant of a Scottish witch hunter, is in London to deliver a series of lectures on new medical advancements and techniques. As he meets the passing glance of a blonde beauty in a restaurant window, he’s compelled to follow her, as if their lives are linked on a supernatural level. Though he believes in logic and the evidence of his own eyes, spending time in Ava’s company shows him how wrong his thinking is.

When a 300-year-old evil spirit possesses Douglas in an effort to kill Ava due to her witch status, she and the doctor must find a way to thwart the threat from beyond the grave despite personal peril. As their relationship evolves into something deep and abiding, they’ll discover just how powerful a force love truly is.

Can’t stop listening

This was a wonderful book and I it kept me listening and not wanting to pause it at all. The story was well written and flowed smoothly from start to finish. It makes you want to go on and get the next book or all of the books in the series.
The narrator was very good and he took you to the different places in the book and you felt like you were right there with them in everything that happened to them.
This was a very good book and I recommend it.

Good story, loved the narration

I enjoyed this tale with elements of the supernatural that bring Ava and Douglas together. Their connection was strong and pushed both to move beyond their fears or expectations. Ava was so afraid of her ability but finally embraced it, which helped bring her to a new understanding and her HEA. Douglas was so gallant and protective of Ava, and he was even willing to leave her for her own safety. I loved how everything came together at the end. I recommend this story.
This was an audiobook, and Beauxregard Neylon did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. His change in voice for each character kept them separate in my mind and brought the emotions out.

I received a copy of this story as a gift through Historical Romance Audiobook, and this is my unsolicited review.

Good listen

I enjoyed listening to the talent of Mr. Neylon as he moved through the different accents he used in his reading. The story is well written. There is some sexual content.

Great Southern Male Narrator

I really enjoyed Beauregard Neylon’s narration. Southern enough that he fit the part but not so exaggerated or fake to be irritating. I will be looking for more “southern” books narrated by him. Good southern accents in narrators are rare ime.

The story is a mix of historic with a paranormal twist. A great October tale.

Evil 300 year old spirit

Great continuation of the origins series. Very engaging with really good narration. Ava is so strong for everything she has faced in her life and Douglas is just perfect for her. There chance meeting results in a 300 year old evil spirit trying to use Douglas to kill her.
