About this listen

Bourne Identity meets Karen McManus in this action-packed series opener about a spy gone rogue, perfect for fans of Ally Carter and Killing Eve.

Jessie Archer is a member of the Athena Protocol, an elite organization of female spies who enact vigilante justice around the world.

Athena operatives are never supposed to shoot to kill - so when Jessie can’t stop herself from pulling the trigger, she gets kicked out of the organization, right before a huge mission to take down a human trafficker in Belgrade.

Jessie needs to right her wrong and prove herself, so she starts her own investigation into the trafficking. But going rogue means she has no one to watch her back as she delves into the horrors she uncovers. Meanwhile, her former teammates have been ordered to bring her down. Jessie must face danger from all sides if she’s to complete her mission - and survive.

Don’t miss this gripping pause-resister that New York Times best-selling author Patrick Ness called "a ferocious, take-no-prisoners thriller that actually thrills!"

Too much like comic book heroes. It was just too contrived. Probably should have been billed as a young adult book. I didn’t care for the narrator either. Her voice was like nails on my chalkboard.

In summary, what it had going for it was that the storyline was unpredictable. Otherwise, it was not one of my better listens.

Plot twists and turns. But still couldn’t save it.

Overall I really enjoyed this tale of Jessie who belongs to a group of ladies who take you on a non stop action ride in the pursuit of justice. This book also touches on the questions around true justice, whose view of it is correct? This is a YA friendly read, yet entertaining for all ages. I also liked the F/F romantic sub plot between Athena agents, it didn't feel forced or that it was the only thing that was normal in the world that was built. Despite the fact that their main objective seems to be fighting against the oppression and injustices on females. We need more strong female stories like this!

Spy Thriller done right!

Flows well. Fast moving action thriller. Human rights battles taken to the max. Not a romance novel.

Good story on the seat action thriller

Super cool sapphic secret agent looking for vengeance and justice? Hell yeah. Admittedly, I wish it had been more kill bill than killing eve, but I do enjoy a moral upper hand all the same.

But wtf is with this “organization” kicking out a member who was obviously going through some major psychological stuff and not even offering access to therapy???

Would recommend to a friend
