Publisher's summary

In the near future, the United States has fought a short, bloody war with China in the Pacific. The fighting is over, but the US Navy maintains a blockade. Some call it the First Sino-American War. Others worry it is the start of World War III.

In a prison cell in Beijing, Navy fighter pilot Jack Knapp tells his story about the victory in the Battle of Taiwan and how he ended up in a Chinese show trial, accused of crimes against humanity.

With his life in the balance, Jack will have to choose between survival and participating in his captors’ lies, and ultimately learn the true meaning of heroism in a war between superpowers where even stories are weapons.

Good book

Strong story. Great details that shows the author's knowledge of the Navy. Weird hanging ending.

Good from the start. There was no endless backstory fluff. I kinda wish it had a sequel.

The very best narrator I've ever heard,

Garrett Brown is the absolute best voice narrator I have ever heard. I will have to search for more titles by him.

The story is enjoyable, and could very well be a precursor to tomorrow's headlines. Brown's narration really brings it to life.

Do your job like a pro Nugget!

The tale begins detailing Jack Knapp’s induction and training to become a Navy fighter pilot. This part is not very long but leads us into a war over Taipan’s declaration of independence from China, Knapp’s capture, and a public trial with the Chinese. To save his life, so to speak, Knapp was ordered to write a confession about the hospital ship he was accused of destroying. Instead, Knapp wrote a dissertation on his life as a Navy fighter pilot, flying his Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, and his actions during the war; no mention of a hospital ship. The story was very interesting and exciting. A journal of potential WWIII with China from a pilot’s first-hand view.

Aviator: missed target

My least satisfying read by Craig DiLouie. Too fragmented to follow as easily as Deep Dive or Armor.

Really entertaining

I liked this story. The main character is insecure and searching for meaning in life. During his journey we see him mature while dealing with fear, loss, and love, all in the backdrop of war to finally find out who he is. It’s not a coming of age story, but rather a tale of blossoming fully into life. Enjoy!

A must listen.

I enjoyed listening to this book. The story is excellent as well as the audio performance!
Definitely learned about some of the life on a aircraft carrier. My Brother flew off the Aircraft Carrier the Mighty O! He shared stories of his experiences on it. Definitely made this real life drama! Thank you Garrett for bringing it to life!

Great story and narration

Great story that flows well. loaded with technical accuracy, thoughts right out of the heads of service members, and rich with emotions. The self depreciating humor is delivered perfectly by the narrator. I can't wait to start book 2
