About this listen

"If you're into snarky heroines, murder mysteries, kickass fight scenes, wild new worlds, and a dah of romance - Sunaya is your girl!" (Angela Roquet, USA Today best-selling author)

This boxed set contains the first seven books in the complete Baine Chronicles Series by New York Times best-selling Author Jasmine Walt. This kick-ass urban fantasy series has been compared to books by Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Karen Marie Moning, and more. You're sure to enjoy it if you like spunky heroines, kick-ass fight scenes, wild new worlds and sizzling, slow-building romance.

From the inside flap of book one:

In the city of Solantha, mages rule absolute, with shifters considered second-class citizens and humans something in between. No one outside the mage families are allowed to have magic, and anyone born with it must agree to have it stripped from them to avoid execution.

Sunaya Baine, a shifter-mage hybrid, has managed to keep her unruly magic under wraps for the last twenty-four years. But while chasing down a shifter-hunting serial killer, she accidentally loses control of her magic in front of witnesses, drawing the attention of the dangerous and enigmatic Chief Mage.

Locked up in the Chief Mage’s castle and reduced to little more than a lab rat, Sunaya resists his attempts to analyze and control her at every turn. But she soon realizes that to regain her freedom and catch the killer, she must overcome her hatred of mages and win the most powerful mage of all to her side.

5 stars

This is my second time reading this portion of this series. I enjoyed it both times. I wish the other books in this series were available in the Audible library.

Good value for a credit

Enjoyable series with additional books now available. Three of those are a spinoff but it appears book 10 is back with sunaya. This is a series about a mage shifter hybrid who speaks her mind and fights for what she feels is right. The story begins with Sunaya accidentally using forbidden magic and being charged with a crime. The high Mage opts to train her instead of sentencing her. There are three primary castes... Humans, mages, shifters. The mages hold most of the power and are blind to see the corruption in their ranks and the unrest with the othe castes. The main character being an outsider due to her mixed heritage and her job as an enforcer offers insight to the High Mage on the problems she sees. She is prone to say what is on her mind regardless of the environment. She has a sense of fairness that drives her. She is loyal and strong. The series has a building romance with a single relationship. The two characters are suppotive and there is no internal drama once they are together.

The first 7 were GREAT

I can’t believe I read this entire series rather quickly.
The first 7 books in the series were well written and evenly paced. Did they contain s Loy of fillet and quite a bit of Sunaya whining? Of course, but that’s expected in a series that spans 8 books and two separate dnd complete spin offs gesturing fan favorite characters.
Now....book 8 we really could’ve gone without. It felt like it was a conclusion for everyone and everything at the same time they thru Annia in there at the very end and to be quite honest, I had forgotten about her character leaving to head out during book 7’s earthquake aftermath. You would think wrapping up everyone’s stories and reminding readers that Annia has a story too would be well and good. It really wasn’t. We technically didn’t learn much about Innis as a whole, did we? The trials set up by her grandmother-in-law didn’t add anything to anything either.
Despite it all, I wish we learned what exactly was Trouble’s limitation...

Absolutely worth the credit.

First of all let me start with, “Boxset” idea if that was author’s or audible’s it is an amazing idea.
The narration was great, story captivating and I loved to go about my daily chores listening to these books in my AirPods. The fact that if one book ends and you don’t have to even have your phone to continue is very convenient.

the books are a great story!

The writer is fantastic. I love the story and the development of the characters is awesome. The narration is a little bit robotic. If you can get past that its an awesome listen!! I hope the other books are coming out on audible soon!!!

A slow burning addiction

This took me a moment to jump into. The world build was hard to adjust to , this might be 3000 years in the future when everything is steam powered and ethnic astride has been replaced by a caste system based on what kind of being you are :mage, shifter, or basic human.

We never find out what happens to their clothes when they shift into an animal and when , as a person she uses her Jaguar claws…excuse me? Is that like Wolverine’?

However, I finished book 7 and am surprised to be missing the heroine already
