Known throughout Tennessee as "Old Kate", the Bell Witch took up residence with John Bell's family in 1818. It was a cruel and noisy spirit, given to knocking and gnawing sounds before finding its own voices. With these voices and supernatural acts, the Bell Witch tormented the Bell family.
This extraordinary tale recounts the only documented case in U.S. History when a spirit "actually caused a man's death". The then local schoolteacher and later senator, Richard Powell, witnessed these strange events and recorded them in a diary for his daughter. He died in 1948. His astonishing manuscript fell into the hands of novelist Brent Monohan, who edited it for this retelling.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Bell Witch to be better than the print version?
I don't want to spoil it but must comment on the ending of this story. I won't say exactly what it is except that, having grown up in Tennessee, I had heard Bell Witch stories all my life. I have read many "accounts" (whether actual or not, I don't know) and have never heard of this summation as to why the Bell family was haunted by this malevolent spirit. All I can say is that it was very disappointing, with no facts to back up the author's assessment.Would you recommend The Bell Witch to your friends? Why or why not?
I would for some of the historical accounts of what "Old Kate" had done and for the historical value of this old Tennessee story but I would forewarn those who want to read it against believing the author's "artistic license" with the ending.Which character – as performed by Cameron Beierle – was your favorite?
John BellWho was the most memorable character of The Bell Witch and why?
Well, of course, "Old Kate". This spirit was captured quite clearly in the narrative and with the narrator.Ridiculous Ending

Would you listen to The Bell Witch again? Why?
YES, I LOVE GHOST STORIES AND HAD HEARD ABOUT THIS ONE FOR YEARS...I SAW THE MOVIE THAT WAS MADE A FEW YEARS AGO.I LOVE TO LISTEN TO AUDIO BOOKS WHEN I AM ON THE ROAD, WHICH IS VERY OFTEN. I LISTEN TO THEM ON VACATION AND TOO RELAX.
What did you like best about this story?
THE GHOST STORY AND VIOLENT ACTS THAT HAPPENED...IT IS VERY DISTURBING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GIRL AND THE REASON FOR THE HAUNTING.Have you listened to any of Cameron Beierle’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
NOWas this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES, IT KEPT MY INTEREST THE ENTIRE AUDIO BOOKAny additional comments?
REMEMBER THIS AUDIO BOOK HAS A VERY DISTURBING TALE TO TELL. WARNING WARNING WARNING.A VERY INTERESTING BUT DISTURBING GHOST STORY
