About this listen

The daughter of a legend finds the love of a lifetime in this passionate, heart-wrenching installment in J.R. Ward’s #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Nalla, the blooded daughter of Zsadist, has led a sheltered life. Protected by her father and the Brotherhood, she is chafing against the walls of the very safety that has ensured her survival. One night, she gives in to her restlessness…and finds herself face-to-face with a male whose inner darkness rivals even that of her sire’s horrific origins.

Nate is a fighter with nothing to lose and nothing to live for. Tortured in a human lab as a young, then cursed with immortality, he is all vengeance and no purpose because he cares for no one—not even himself. The Brotherhood knows this all too well and following Nate’s deliberate violation of the cardinal rule in the war, they declare him a dangerous liability that must be dealt with.

When Nalla and Nate find themselves fighting side by side, daggers aren’t the only things that fly. A sizzling attraction is ignited, though Nalla knows her sire will never accept him—and on his side, Nate has made a secret bargain to end his own immortality. As the enemy closes in, and Nalla realizes she must choose between her mate and her sire, what starts with such passion may well end with eternal sorrow and no chance of a reunion—even in the Fade.©2024 J.R. I love this series so much. I almost cry when a book ends. I was very pleased with how certain things happened and won’t spoil it. But I see more good things to come

Excited for Bella’s Story

I wasn’t sure what to expect but I wasn’t disappointed. I kind of expected more violence from Zsadist. It could have been longer but I still loved it.

The kids are grown up!

J.R. Ward smoothly spins the timeline forward to introduce the children of the black dagger brothers as adults and also reintroduces the dreaded lessors. Nalla, the blooded daughter of Zsadist, has been sheltered her entire life, mostly because Zsadist, her father and a black dagger bad-ass brother, is not a father anyone would want to cross. The story begins when Nalla and Bitty go out to a human club where they run into some of the characters we've met when they were youngs.

Wrath also returns after 33 years that were a blink for him and a long torturous road for his family and the brothers. It was an incredible reunion moment when Fritz first encounters Wrath. That was written well and was touching. Wrath's son, appears to have a budding chemistry with Bitty also, but that, I'm sure will be in a book to come and I can't wait.

Nate and Nalla first meet in this story after Nalla leaves the nightclub she was talked into coming to by Bitty. Nate follows her to keep her "safe" but Nalla, is no shrinking violet. She proves she doesn't need the helping hand. I won't say more as I don't want to spoil the book. I love J.R. Ward's books and the narration by Jim is, as always, an entire layer of extra deliciousness for you to feast on.
I was not thrilled to bring back the Lessoning society, but I'm sure that J.R. Ward will find a fitting end to them once more and
I'm looking forward to the Bitty and L.W. romance too. Great story!
