About this listen

Kiera Cass brings another sparkling romance to a stunning conclusion in this sequel to the instant number one New York Times best seller The Betrothed, performed by Jasika Nicole (Fringe, The Good Doctor, Alice Isn’t Dead).

Can you follow your heart when it’s already broken?

After fleeing Coroa and leaving the memory of her beloved Silas behind, Hollis is unsteadily adjusting to life in Isolte. The Eastoffe family’s affection is a balm on her weary spirit, though Etan, a surly cousin with a deep distaste for Coroans, threatens to upset the uneasy peace she’s found.

While tensions at home ratchet up, disquiet in the kingdom of Isolte is reaching a fever pitch. The Eastoffes may have the power to unseat a tyrannical king - but only with Hollis’ help. Can a girl who’s lost it all put the fate of her adopted homeland over the secret longings of her heart?

Nice piece of escape or summer reading

Personally feel you should read Betrothed first, but probably won’t stop your enjoyment.

A young adult fantasy and romance in an imaginary historical period with plenty of complications and adventure. Well narrated.

Happily Ever After

I enjoyed this story a lot. I liked the amount of action that was throughout this story. Hollis and Eaton were a cute match.

I do feel like the story was a little long in the end. It was a perfect young adult romance novel.

Fairy tale

I always enjoy a lite read now and then. A happy ending makes it all the better.

Good but predictable

This was a sweet love story but the big plot twists were pretty predictable.

Great ending!

With twists and turns all along the way, this book was impossible to put down. I love the ending and will be storing this with my romance favorites.

Childish

Childish, predictable storyline. Childish & grating narration. I’ve listened to the series twice & it’s tolerable but won’t get a third pass.

Deus ex Machina

I like happy endings, but all of Hollis's problems in this book were solved way to easily. They were faced with two psychotic kings (which the rest of the world saw as impossible to overthrow and had been struggling against for years) and yet Hollis had no trouble at all. It was as if she had dranken the "Liquid Luck" potion from Harry Potter and nothing could go wrong for her in this book.

Hollis's character felt like she had a childlike, simplistic, outlook on the world (in spite of the tragedy she faced in the last book). Because of her surface understanding of the world around her, she sometimes acted foolishly, but it worked out for her anyway. It was as if the readers were supposed to believe her decisions were smart because they worked out, but instead she just came across as unbelievably lucky.

Yet the book was pleasant, with an easy happy ending. So, if you need that out of a book right now, this is the one.
